re: Borovets.....As bad as they say??

Went to Borovets 2 years ago and stayed at the Iglika. Thoroughly enjoyable holiday, hotel was basic but very clean and warm. Food was different!!! as fussy eater as I am I found something every night to eat but very cheap to eat out.
Ski instructors were excellent and spoke very good english.

Enjoy Very Happy

Just returned from a week in Borovets for the first time. I must say, I was very impressed. Stayed in the Rila, so travelling to and from the slopes was particularly easy, just had to fall out the door.

Walking around town you need to be very careful as the roads can be very very icy, esecially morning and evening. Taxis cost 10 lev to go anywhere in town, but beware of the horse taxis, I don't know what they feed them but they certainly are fragrant (not in the good way)

All the people were extremely friendly, we never felt out of place or threatened. Watch out for the drinks in 101 cocktails, they certainly don't do half measures !!

Generally eating out is very cheap, the mexican is awesome and so is the restaurant next door and set back a little (can't remember the name).

The pistes were a little raw which is to be expected early in the season, but the range is great, from easy nursery slopes to some awesomey scary looking black runs. Ski school was brilliant though on the easier slopes you may spend as much time queuing as skiing. Should be quieter towards the end of Jan though.

All in all, highly recommended. Well worth a visit, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

re: Borovets.....As bad as they say??

Been to Boro last 3 years and really enjoyed it. Stayed at the Breza last year, and though it was slagged off by the great majority, we had a great time. Zacks Bar was very friendly and the food was good. Provided you got there as soon as the dining room was open it was also VERY hot. It is only about 200m from the gondola and you get use of the Samakov pool. Mal

cant fault boro for me, does exactly what it says on the tin. the bulgarians are lovely people an you havent got the pretensionness(?) of other euro resorts! yes lower slopes can be icy but get upp the gondola and there are some good routes an a nice trip down the mountain in time for brandies at the happy duck!
