re: Borovets/Samakov

Thanks Les, did you enjoy the skiing? have you been skiing around Europe before? Ever tried St Johan in Austria? Advise the Hotel Park there, cos thats really 4* if not above. Obviously its more expensive, but between Samokov and a 4* in France or USA.

Les I skied for Solomon in the eighties and so skied all over the world too (Never Chilie though), so i see your reaction to Bulgaria!
Bulgaria is a developing country though the skiing is more than adequate for my young kids. we skied France last year and can have 2 weeks in Borovets for the price of one self catering in Courcheval!
Untill they are beyond Bulgaria ability wise we will return, as you "get what you pay for" in the end. When you booked you must have thought "hey this is a ...

Untill they are beyond Bulgaria ability wise we will return, as you "get what you pay for" in the end. When you booked you must have thought "hey this is a hell of a lot cheaper than Austria or the USA" for example?
And when there, bet you didnt spend half of what you would had you been elsewhere!
As an experienced skier yourself, did you not think of heading over to the 3 valleys etc, or what were your reasons for trying Borovets in the first place?
PS Im goinmg soon as interesting as this is, Match of the day is on soon!

re: Borovets/Samakov

Well Les I can only think that you didn't have a very good holiday because your expectations were too high what with you being an "Experienced skier" as you will have read this board before you went you will realise that a lot of the same people go to Bulgaria every year and happily return year in year out.

I go next sat with 48 others on the 5th March for my 3rd visit and I am staying at the Samakov again for my 3rd time. So I guess I must like it

Everyone is entitled to an opinion ...

Everyone is entitled to an opinion as you have had yours but your comments about sueing the hotel/tour operator makes you sound like a SNOB. stick to Austria and France where you will have a great time spending your compensation money, the only difference being it wont go very far!

re: Borovets/Samakov

I'll be staying at the Samokov for the first time on 12th March for the week. I have previously stayed at the Iglika but there was no availability this year when I booked it 10 days ago - in fact, there's no availability in Borovets now for 12th March.

If you go on holiday with an open mind, you won't be disappointed. Last year I went to Spain on a Thomson Gold holiday - I expected a gold holiday to be of high quality - the room was so small you couldn't have swung a cat in there - ...

If you go on holiday with an open mind, you won't be disappointed. Last year I went to Spain on a Thomson Gold holiday - I expected a gold holiday to be of high quality - the room was so small you couldn't have swung a cat in there - that's if there would have been space for one - the bath was a hip bath (but I expected a full size bath) and the shower didn't work - I was right over the street where deliveries started at 6am and the other side of the hotel had music blaring out until midnight - no good for a relaxing holiday. That's what I call "not up to standard"...

Bulgaria is cheap because it is still a developing nation and the accommodation reflects that. The Bulgarians do not like their food piping hot so if you get down to the dining room at the beginning of the evening, the food would be a lot warmer. Remember, it's not the USA or Canada...
