Just returned from Borovets today.We are not a happy family-We stayed at the Samakov and was disgusted by it-No way is it a 4 star hotel.
I thought we were going to have a nice time, but my wife could not sleep due to the lumpy beds etc..The food was not at all nice either.We also were put next to a room of heavy beer drinkers.Eventually we moved rooms after 3 nights of hell.
Anyone else have the same problems?I am furious and am seeking legal advice to possibly sue my travel ...

Resort was Ok but dirty in some places- dog mess etc..

Sorry to hear of your bad holiday Les, I know the hotels not 4* UK standard but I expected that before i left, the travel brochure with Balkan was clear to me and having read reports on this site I knew what to expect!I went not expecting Austria or France and left very pleased, but it does not take a lot to please me as long as theres plenty snow and the prices are ok!
try somewhere else in europe but expect to pay for it next year.

I work in Borovets for one of the tour operators and I'm amazed at your comments. The Samokov is a perfectly fine hotel, it has plenty of the facilities and generally very good service.
The food is fine as long as you don't mind eating food with fresh ingrediants, if you are expecting junk food then you will be dissapointed.
As far as a lumpy bed is concerned, absolutely ridiculous! I have no idea how you are going to convince a judge that a lumpy bed and fresh food is a ...

John, I stayed at the Samokov and am again, found its facilities excellent, staff friendly and rooms more than ok for me, I think Les is perhaps one of the minority that have higher levels of expectation.re: Borovets/Samakov
By English law a 4star hotel has to meet certain requirements.I dont know about Bulgarain law but The brochures are english and therefore english law is applicable.re: Borovets/Samakov
Les, does it not say somewhere (perhaps in small print!), that this star rating is based on the travel companys rating rather than the usual English rating (as in Balkan).What did you think of the facilities at the hotel? Bowling alley, Swimming pool, Bars?
What did you expect for evening meal, what else did you expect in the rooms etc, perhaps someone here will be able to help you.

No it does not.I have looked in the brochure cover to cover for the small print and it does not excist.I was not expecting the Ritz but a nice selection of " quality" foods would of been nice.Fresh Fish, Chicken breast and Steaks etc..
Not as my daughter called it " Cold Slop"

I guess Les has been influenced by the "sue culture" we have today, sadly tour operators are an easy target. I can not think of any other industry that is so vunerable.
For Les's info hotels only have to meet the local standards. The Samokov will be able to provide all the documents confirming that its a 4* Bulgarian Hotel.
We have many letters from clients praising the quality of their holiday at the Hotel Samokov.

Les what time did you eat cos I never experienced "cold slop" and my kids are fussy! They were happy with HOT soup to start and then chips with one of the main courses followed by plenty of cakes or fruit if they wanted!We allways ate early in the evening 6pm or shortly afterwards, and found the meals not the Ritz as you said but quite adequate!

Ate around 7.30 ish most nights-We only ate their Twice and went to Kati's steak house most night also the Mad duck.Katis was nice but The Mad Duck got out of hand later in the night due to people drinking to much and spoling it for others.( Rowdy and swearing etc.)
