Borovets

Hey People

Me and my cousin have booked to go to Borovets in January, having never been to Bulgaria before (or on a skiing holiday), I am wondering about things like where you get your boots/skis from? (already paid for through my travel agent) and just standard things like any advice/tips and obviously the currency?, I heard Bulgaria joins the EU in January, so also would like to know if I will need Euros?

Cheers

Az

re: Borovets

you get your ski gear on the first morning, normally the rep comes to your hotel with a load of vouchers and you use them once you get to the ski depots, but be warned the first day is manic and generally a long queue, you can bypass the queue if you manage to get your vouchers the evening before and get a taxi to the ski depot - but best if you have not been before to stick with the reps... at the moment the lev is still in place and probably will be for a few years yet... you can get a ...

best tip I know is to give the porters/drivers etc. £1 coins as the tip on your first day if you have no small Levs. they collect these up and then change them for a £10 note and then change them into Lev, my friend gave the guy 10 lev for carrying her cases to her room because she had nothing smaller!!!!!!

re: Borovets

coldest ever wasnt it last Jan? I remember it being freezing.

I've been with Balkan Holidays the past 2 years, and we start on the Sunday (opposed to most starting on the Saturday) so it's been nowhere near as maniac as some people suggested to me.

re: Borovets

Im heading out this january as well. I went 4 years ago skiing and i am snowboarding this time. I should imagine it has changed quite a bit since then tho.

It was very busy on the first day, mainly because nobody has any idea what the hell is going on, and nobody seems to know their shoe size!

Good note about the euro's and lev, could have been a big mistake!

Might see you there.

At last it looks like were going back to boro, there was a group of 10 welsh boys that went last year (28th Jan), we enjoyed so much were going back on round about the same time but with more numbers, hope we get the same weather, not a cloud in the sky for the 7 days we were there, collecting the gear on the first day was not too bad if you don't get too drunk the night before!!!, but the key is getting the right instructor we were again lucky to have a lady called Demi from borosport who ...
