So Rose,
you will have no problems to find the mainroads to Bansko or Plovdiv from Sofia, all signs at the Main roads are both in bulgarian and english. The road to Bansko is made new because is the main road from north-western bg to greece. The EU payed a lot for this you will see this if you go to Melnik or the Rila monastery. Even the same in Plovdiv, there you can find tourist guides in the old town.

Debated long and hard whether to post this but then thought what the Heck............Cyril was not from Bulgaria but from Thessalonika in Northern Greece which believe it or not makes him Greek, however the Bulgarians fervently regard him as their own...............not that it really matters .....cos it's all Greek to me!!re: Bulgaria in September 2004
PS. Cyril and his brother Methodius were born in Thessalonika, their father was Greek and their Mother was Bulgarian.........................Jeeez a wasted childhood, I could have been smoking behind the bike sheds and defacing bus shelters instead I became a source of useless information

So if I'm not wrong the modern cyrillic alphabet was created by Cyril and his brother Method born in Thessaloniki. These both men live a long time in the Rila Monastery, one of the importants orthodox maonasteries in this time and work there on these modern cyrillic alphabet. So they was born in a place which is today in Greece, but I'm not sure if it was in this time when they live, may be it was a part of the bulgarian empire so will have another look to some books and will tell you the ...

Shame, however, that the EU didn't provide some extra money so that the street lights could be switched on in the evenings though
