The idea of people using bulgaria as a winter sports holiday PURELY because its CHEAP seems rather soulless does'nt it? maybe i'm wrong? before my first trip to bulgaria i was rather dubious about it, but, i was bowled over by the experience.

OK, some aspects are backward, due in part to it's communist past and severe poverty which is well documented. But i think that can just add to the romanticism of the place.
I have booked my ski holiday 4th year on the trot, to pamps yet again and i dearly hope that over the coming years which will no doubt see increased numbers and investment, that the resort of pamporovo and bulgaria in general does not lose its charm.
Hey if your minted no probs - fondu at £25 (cheese and bread)... not for me. Pamp stacks up for a family of 4, 3 meals a day with drinks, lift passes & activities- third of the price and then some. Know where I'm off to on my ltd budget, Pamps for me I'm happy to say
My partner and I went a couple of years ago because it was a cheap and basic introduction to snowboarding (especially after spending a few hundred on gear to go in the first place!) - why would I spend what I think is a lot of money just because "it's France" to go to France (or other "fashionable place") when I didn't know whether I'd enjoy it? Hence the choice of Bulgaria as our first outing.

As it happens I really enjoyed Bulgaria and the views are spectacular. This, and the good time we had are a good part of the reason for returning.
However.
If I had to spend nearer what France or Switzerland might be price wise, there is no comparison. I'd just go there. The fact remains that, at the moment, we can go to Bulgaria and have a nice time and still have money for perhaps another sun holiday at the end of the year.
If we were spending more, Bulgaria doesn't have the nightlife or infrastructure that the more expensive resorts in France and Switzerland has so why on earth would I pay more to go to Bulgaria when the simple, undeniable fact is that a big reason people go is because it's a cheap'ish introduction to snowboarding.
its not souless, if there wasnt somewhere to go that was cheaper than the ave boarding holiday, i simply couldnt go!!! thinks it naive to think that it will take ages for prices to increase!!
