Hi Chris.

Chamonix - for advanced sking / boarding and off piste I'd definately recommend Cham, amazing. Quality of snow when I was there was great too. Good idea on taking a packed lunch - save you £10 quid each, stacks up for a family over 7 days Booze

However some of the piste runs are short, and for borders many are narrow; the queues at the Gondolas can be long (in March I queued an hour and was at one of the Gondolas at 8.00) and as Cham is a number of ranges (Le Tour, Argentiere ...

I will go again as my expensive holiday and Pamps as my affordable one Cool

re: Bulgaria vs France

chamonix is definitely not one for beginners and maybe not even intermediates. Also as nooky says it is really spreadout and is more little 4-5 mini resorts in the one valley.

was there 3 years ago and found the ski instructors not at all helpful. only interested in going on their favourite runs even if they were far beyond our capabilities. didn't feel i really learnt anything. many of the beginners in our group were in tears on several occasions.

we also did the going to supermarket trick as it was far to expensive for anything else.

borovets is very cheap by comparison but you do need to watch for those people who try to scam an extra lev from you

re: Bulgaria vs France

Went to boro in feb for the third time and prices have risen considerably in that time. Prices for food are pretty much the same as the uk now. I love everything about boro, but might have to consider somewhere else next year. Would love to find the new boro, wherever that may be? We were thinking of going chamonix next week, as we are intermediate/advanced skiers, but not too sure now? Any recommendations on any other resorts within reach from geneva?

re: Bulgaria vs France

pfski,
Tignes is a 3 hr transfer from Geneva but well worth it the ski area is huge as its linked with Val desaire, also the resort is high at 2100m and the highest point is 3456m so still plenty of snow Very Happy
I think Morzine is only an hour transfer but its quite a bit lower so not sure how the snow is

re: Bulgaria vs France

we 4 of us did val thorens before christmas 4 @650 quid less than current trip to bansko. The alps can definatly be done on a shoe string if you do a
last minute deal and pick a cheap week just b4 christmas is a good one.we're in bansko at the moment and it is busier & noticably more expensive. Much as I still love it I doubt we'll be back in the near future

re: Bulgaria vs France

Wilbermina, It depends on which part of Cham that you decide to head to. Le Tour, for example, is great for cruisy blue runs, Brevent/Flegere is cool, but to get the best out of Grand Montet I would suggest you need to be pretty adept on skis. Awesome place though, highly recommended.

I've said this before, but if you want a ski HOLIDAY, go to BG, however if you want a SKI holiday, go to Cham (or similar). I love both, but for very different reasons.
