It's not so strong as You think. "Troyanska slivova" is one of the best (only if it's home made). If You drink it with good things for eating, such as meat and a good salad, You can drink about 2/3L without problem. And if the company is good it will be a real pleasure for You. "Mastika" is a light drink, but "Rakia" (if is home made) can reach 62%. It's strong drink, but it's very good drnk. If You haven't tried, then try it.It,s one of Our National drinks. You'll never forget the feeling. ...

I agree "Burgs 63" is one of the best but you should try "Khan Krum", it's the best.
Know this - the best of the best is the home made ( preferably made by my grandfather, from fruits from his own garden . I have a 22 year old Rakia at home and there is no other drink in the world that can best it )
Rakia is a notion up from what you know. Rakia is TRADITION. Just as whiskey is for the Irish. Here in Finland we drink Bulgarian plum rakia hot with sugar/honey in order to purify ourselves and achieve
a higher degree of Zen. As one very famous rakia-lover has once said: "What is life but an endless cask of Rakia..."
neon green beverage is called "oblak" (in english - "cloud"). it's a coctail. ingredients are: mastika, menta and cream.
rakia is made of grape, plums, apricots or other fruits. it may be really strong. the best rakia is home-made. it can't be bought from any store. it's best if rakia is consumed with salad, called "shopska salata". "shopska salata" is made from tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, olives, cheeze.
that's all, folks! enjoy!
Yap, Kenny is right - rakia and bira is a great combination. And the hangover is close to none.
The best rakiq I've tried was made from many different types of fruites, was about 60% proof and was clear like water -
unforgatable taste and aroma
So the same we can say about our 'Rakia', I'm from Bulgaria. The Rakia's quality depends of the fruits from which it is made. The home made Rakia is usually very good and easy and pleasant to drink.
