Bulgarian Prices

Having recently read various comment about the prices in Bulgaria, ie 'Rip Off', 'Cheap' etc I think we have been our own worst enemy. I have been going since 1989 when it really was cheap and boy did we tell them and everyone else for that matter. I agree with most people that Bulgaria is becoming 'expensive', in January at Pamps we were being charged 5 lev (£2 !) for a small hot wine in a plastic cup from a small shack, chocolate brandy 8 - 10 lev (nearly 4 quid !) I agree with most people that Bulgaria is becoming 'expensive', in January at Pamps we were being charged 5 lev (£2 !) for a small hot wine in a plastic cup from a small shack, chocolate brandy 8 - 10 lev (nearly 4 quid !) Taxi fares which are now more expensive than in England. We need to start letting the Bulgarians know that it is NOT cheap because if we don't they will keep charging more and more. I for one have stopped using taxi's and when a driver ask me if I want one I say NO your too expensive. If taxi's are driving around with no fares what do you think will happen to the price ? The same can be said about bars and drinks etc.

Lets start delivering the right message to them instead of keep saying how cheap it is.

re: Bulgarian Prices

I have to agree.
Went to Turkey this year and it is all going horribly wrong price wise. A chap in the countryside well away from resort tried to charge me £100 for a plastic football Mad
The thing is is that these idiots think we earn millions and dont know the limit. Im not shy of sharing wealth and paying for a good service but there is a fine line.
Unfortunatley they will pay the price soon, when we all jump ship, as have spain etc with beach hols.
Bulgaria today where tommorrow??

re: Bulgarian Prices

i think u've got it spot on! i hope they dont start priceing themselves out of the market because since i last went the prices have tripled! its nice that they're gettin more money but im not sure its going to the right people, i know for a fact that the bar staff are getting paid less than what a drink costs!

re: Bulgarian Prices

Seems that Bansko currently is the best bet in BG for prices in the tourist trap. Don't remember paying more than 3 maybe 4 lev for brandy hotchoc anywhere on the mountain - same for beer. In resort centre, you can get beers for just over 1 lev still.

I.M.T - Already booked up for next year at Pamps (21 Jan & 25 Mar) but seriously considering switching to Bansko, better skiing and sounds a lot cheaper, but how long before they catch on ?

re: Bulgarian Prices

I was in Bansko last week and found it very reasonable. The difference is that Bansko is a real town not a man made ski resort so I think there will be riots from the locals if prices get out of hand. If you avoid the Lions Bar prices are very cheap in the town. More on the slopes but that is to be expected.
