Another option, from Gatwick South at least, is to make an Internet advance purchase - e.g. from TTT, via the BAA website - where they "guarantee" you the best rate (in the UK, I suppose). You pick up (and pay for) the currency as you pass through the airport. They say there is no commission. I got 2.53 lev to the GBP, when the quoted (middle-market?) rate was approx 2.73. It's worth it when arriving at 20:45 on a Sunday (as we are) and you need to have a few lev. No buy-back ...
