Hi All,
Read the forum postings on a regular basis as been to Borovets 3 times and like to hear what's going on.
However rather puzzled lately with the comparisons people make to bulgarian ski resorts and the french alps when it comes to costings. You pay for what you get.
Last week read about holiday costs and how expensive french holidays can be. Nothing under a £1000 and spending a £100 a day. Thought this was ridiculous having just come back from Xmas in Tignes chalet board with ski passes and hire for about £800.
Have then been reading about food and drink costs: yes Bulgarian resorts can be cheap in resort but up the mountain prices were criminal!! And yet posters moan about pricces in french resorts: We skied down to Davilles(spellings) at bottom of Val D'isere and drank hot cohocolateswith rum or brandy at for 5euros and pizzas at the top of the Toviere lift in Tignes for 13 euros which is certainly much cheaper thean some of the prices posters choose to write about on here.
The comparisons can't be made as lets remember we are talking about completely different worlds when it comes to skiing/snowboarding in these countries.
What we ultimately need to remember is: that if it was a great holiday be thankful, enjoy why we initially go on these holidays and budget accordingly.
Well Joan (as I've just returned from Tignes yesterday I can only presume it's me you are refering to) I am merely stating the facts that I experienced last week.
£28 for 4 small glasses of mould wine in a very unspecial bar in Tignes 2100.
£15 for Burger & Chips on the slopes
£7 for a plate of Chips on the slopes
£11 for a Brandy & Chocolate on the slopes
£2.78 for a 2 litre bottle of Lemonade in the Spar Shop.
Make of that what you will - I consider it extortionate.
Ok, beer in La Boise, 20 mins down from Tignes, 5 euro, in Tignes, around 9 euro, val d isere, as high as 14 euro.
Spag bol in same restaurant at top of trollie (toviere) 18 euro, and would barely feed an 8 year old.
Im sorry, its always been a bit pricey in the area, great deals to be had on accomadation though, generally visitor numbers are down, especially thr French.
I feel that there are loads of people who come onto this site saying goto france/austria/swit etc instead of bulgaria. SOOO thought i would put my 2 penneth in.
I have been skiing for 14 years and have skied in Bulgaria (Pamps/Boro) Canada Austria and france. I think there is one crucial factor. If you are a beginner to lower intermediate in my opinion you are daft paying to go to those other countries because you just wont get your monies worth from the resort.
If anything learn in ...

If anything learn in bulgaria (Excellent Tuition) to a standard where you will use a bigger resort/runs.
I keep coming back to bulgaria bringing people skiiers new and old skiing and they love it.
I am back for my 12th (I think) time with 12 others I still enjoy it and yes I may have to do the same runs but love it here.
And dont get me going on what I would spend at night.......
Not at all...... i spent £560 for 1 week in Borovets.... last year i went to Chamonix and i spent £700 for 1 week and in regards to spending money/food expenses i spent more or less the same amount in English money.... so being there itself isnt' any more expensive for me... but the standards and the overall quality is a lot better hence the higher price of going there in the first place.
This is a discussion board and just because people state some negatives they get jumped on!!
i priced up staying in a studio (ok small and cramped) driving to flaine , ski to door for three of us would be the same price as bansko . at least i know what food i was eating. and the skiing is better. i have also been jumped on for dissing bansko . this is a discussion board and all are intitalled to an opininion
