We had a New Year up in aviemore and a couple of days skiing on a limited run Cairngorm. Makes Bulgaria very much a better option!
(ohh and food and drink were an awfull lot more expensive too!)
Think well stick to Borovets next year!
Great observation Ian... but i'll guarantee we'll have someone on who will swear that luxury accommodation, pass, hire and a mountain of food and beer is available in the Alps or the like for a fraction of what a week in Boro will cost them...
Want a deal, my old mate Canski (formally of this forum, and others) appeared in Bansko yesterday (v early), staying in the Mura hotel, B&B, flights, transfers and lift pass... £239.00 with Balkan..

Just a quid less than your 2 days in the sunny Cairngorms.. sorry mate, gotta be BG
Quite right Steve, it is hard if not impossible to beat BG on costs. Granted you can get bigger areas but you pay bigger prices, our lift passes for Aosta Valley plus Zermatt will cost us £260 each, its a lot of piste, but more than the cost of a week in a BG hotel, yes you can get budget accomodation in the alps but it will be just that. I doubt that you can get a 4 star hotel including flights and transfers in the alps for the rates I have paid in the past for BG, and on the spot costs ...

Going to cairngorm for a day near the 27th but driving up late afternoon stayin the night and riding all the next day as i dont think its worth the cost for any longer
Have a good one don, Zermatt will definitely break the bank, but its an awesome area, and so typically Alpine, a real treat...
Lets be honest, as much as i love BG (i live here for gods sake) if money was no object i would be languishing in my Austrian Gastoff high in the Pongau region adjoining the Italian Alps, trekking off each day with my telemarks, returning each evening, rosy cheeked to a log fire, hot schnaps and a plate of cut speck... But i'm not a millionaire (and never likely to ...

re: Cairngorm ski costs
Hi Ian and Steve
we looked at scotland but when we priced it was put off by the cost.
Last year we had our first holiday in Borovets and what did we do this year booked 2 weeks and we are thoughly looing forward to it.
And as Steve put it the cost in the Alps will hurt the wallet so will have to think long about next year.
well put Alan-hope you have a great time!
We did Scotland so the kids could say been there tried it so to say- and my oldest is busy with exams- so made it difficult to get away outside school holls (too expensive all over!)
Hopefully back again next year!
I booked a cheap £12/night Travel Lodge for late Dec to grab 2 days of 'skiing'. Took one look at the forecast and decided the 7 hour drive from Brum was a waste of time!
My folks in law live in Orkneys (?) so I have grabbed a day en route before but given you can get to BG in 7 hours, I know which I'd choose!!
