Hi, hubby is keen to go to Canada or America sking next year He is a good skier I am not so good Only ever been sking once and that was this year to Pamps! Loved it Any hints or tips on best resort, value for money, best time to go etc.?
Well we thoroughly enjoyed Banff last year. The town has a good selection of restaurants and there are 3 separate ski areas to enjoy all with a wide variety of runs for all standards. Unfortunately the lift pass is expensive but you are paying for a huge total area which is quite spread out. It takes about 40 minutes to get to Lake Louise. I would go in March because Canada can be very cold in Jan and Feb. See previous post and look at the website for mre info. It has a very good photo ...

Have to agree that Banff is indeed a good place to go, however, you have to be "bused" in each morning to the slopes which can be a bit of a drag. The slopes are always in tip top condition and unlike most places, they also have Ski Police who patrol the slopes looking out for any offenders, therefore ensuring that you get to ski/board in peace and safety. Bit more than can be said for Borovets! Anyway, Banff is a lively enough town (go with an open mind) and eating/drinking out is a fab ...

Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and you will love it there Im sure. March is certainly the best time to go - so cold earlier in the year that you wont enjoy it as much! We stayed at the Caribou Lodge in Banff which was a wonderful hotel, with roaring log fires and the best ski instructors ever! The food is also extremely good there and the rooms were brilliant - we ended up in a suite for the two weeks which was an added bonus at no extra cost! Would certainly recommend it to anyone. Have a fab time if you do decide to go.
We stayed at Carlton Cedar Court which is next door to the Caribou where the ski buses stop. We had a lovely suite and although there is no bar there we used the one in the Caribou so there was no problem.
One evening some Elk came down to eat grass in a small park up the road from us. My husband got a lovely photo of me with one of the stags. Not uncommon to see wildlife in the middle of Banff town as the whole area is a National Park.
We went with First Choice and they were great. The rep in Banff Lucy met us every night in the Caribou just to have a chat and find out how our day's skiing was. We went for 2 weeks and in the middle went dog sledding which was brilliant. We were also out there for St Patricks day and went down the Irish Pub in the evening. Great fun.
