Does anyone if you are able to use the kitchen when staying in a catered chalet? I know there is always one night that the chalet person has off and we don't get fed. As we're doing the Alps on a shoestring thought we's stuff our bags with baked beans for the night we have to cater for ourselves.
I'm not that silly - well maybe - but after hearing horror stories of prices and a couple of fusspot eaters in the group thought going prepared might not be so silly.Although I know in my heart it'll all come back with us squashed and inedible.
France is not a 3rd world country. They will have shops, they will have restaurants. If thats too expensive, put some snow in a cup and pass it off as sorbet. Good grief, what do you do for food on a day to day basis?
If the above suggestions are to expensive, tune into Ray Mears Survival. It will teach you how to hunt, make clothes, and even shelter. I hear tomorrow he is showing how to make ski's. There you go - a complete ski holiday, "no frills"!
If you can afford to go to the Alps, whether in France, Austria or Switzerland, I think for one night you can afford to buy cheap pizza in town or at worst go to the supermarket and pick up a loaf of bread and some cheese for a few euros. Yes, even if you are on a shoestring budget. And if you have a credit card, just eat out on plastic and pay it off the next month.
Best thing that happened to us on a catered chalet holiday in France, the chalet girl fell skiing on our second day broke her leg and we weren't allowed to cook so the Company rep handed us a load of money to go eat out every day, we didn't evan miss those melted marsbar & breakfast cereal cakes at tea time. Mind you haven't done a catered chalet since. I think she walked to ski another day.
to the people who made mean spirited comments - this is an extremely fortutious first family skiing holiday of the season. We're really lucky to be going to Bulgaria in March as well and would much rather be able to go twice on a shoe sting than blow money unnecessarily.Glad for those of you that have no such constraints on your budget but if you have no helpful advice why bother being rude?
