Are you local?

We use the Banbury Aldi. My 2 are now aged 7 & 9 and we have skiied since the youngest was 5. I have always used coats and thermal trousers or sallopettes. As long as their legs are warm as well as their upper body they should be ok. The all in one suits are great I'm sure but a bit of a polava when they need the loo!! Also they use the coats again after we have skiied and next winter. Rosie wears the trousers when watching Alister play football and rugby. So so I come to that!

The children wear:

Layer 1 Thermal long johns and vest/t-shirt

Layer 2 Joggers and long sleeve t-shirt/polo neck

Layer 3 Fleece

Layer 4 Coat and sallopettes

Also hat, gloves, ski socks and sunglasses. They both have googles but to be honest unless they are getting up to great speeds and it is snowing then they are a bit of a pain.

I'm a cold bird and to be honest I wear much the same as them. You can strip off if you are too hot but it isn't easy getting warm again if cold.

I only take the one coat for them. The hotels are warm and they dry out over night.


When putting on ski boots make sure it is only the socks that you tuck in. I made the mistake the first day we went of tucking in the top of my thermals and the seam rubbed and caused a sore.

For the feet we all wear a thermal type walking boot. Wellies are cold so make sure you get something suitable, it is worth it and again they can wear them when they get home.

Did you get the all in one or the red 2 piece. I got the 2 pieces for mine and the card label definitely says they are wind and waterproof.

The quality is the same as last season and both their coats have been washed many times and are still suitable and certainly warm. As I said before the coats I got in 2003 were much thinner but did the trick especially as they were in kindergarten and not out all day. Rosie still wears hers and she never complains of being cold.

As I said above it really does make a difference once your legs are covered up as well and remember they do need to wear layers just like us.

I think I've got all covered then. I have a new one piece and also a 2nd hand jacket & sallopettes - think I take both. Steph fell in love with the furry moon boots in Beans so they arrived from Santa luckily for her!! We've all got our walking boots - do you think they will do, should I take Stephs' or will moon boots be all she needs? Did you notice any gloves for a teenager?

Sorry - endless questions but you always seem to be one of the ones with the information needed. I'm looking forward to getting there but trying to organise everything from packing, travel, parking etc is getting a pain. My eldest son (25) has now decided he's only got 2 jumpers and questions like "how much money" and "can I wear my trainers" are being asked!! And I take a lot of stick about being sad for spending so much time on this board

Ellie, ta for the reassurance! I got my girl an all in one pink number (she loves it!) and the two piece job (though the green was all they had in her size and she's not too chuffed with it, I thought it'd do for second choice and for a tenner it's neither here nor there if she doesn't get too much wear out of it!).

The gloves are excellent (much better than the previous one's I'd got for three times the price elsewhere) hats, sweaters and thermals all up to scratch and bargains.

allie - I'll be doing my usual and packing everything we've got and coming home with lots of stuff untouched, then wondering to myself 'what possessed you?!'...it goes with the parental territory!
