At all costs avoid the 3 March. It is their Independence Day holiday and all the world and his wife descended on Bansko big time. The queues were horrendous and all the restaurants booked up too.
We are looking to go on 18th Feb next year.
Looks good. Unfortunatly my skiing is not very good yet. If I wore shorts and tee shirts at the rate I fall over I would be covered scrapes and scabs by the end of the week! Not a pretty site.
We went 5th March this year and although it was busy on the Sunday it was great the rest of the week. We are thinking of going back the same week next year just waiting for a good deal to come up at the travel agents. Unfortunatley I dont have enough holidays from work to go to all the places I would like to.
Thanks for letting me know that Val. This year I was thinking of going on Sat 4 March (I went on Sat 5 March this year) - or the week before - which week will be hit by this do you think - the week before as 3rd is on the Friday - or the week after as people will arrive the Friday and then stay a week? I had a great week in March this year and the slopes were SO quiet - never queued once. I do think tho that I kinda got spoilt this year what with the great snow and everything. Do you ...

Do you book now or wait til nearer the time? I am dying to book now but have never booked anything this far in advance and wonder whether I should try and exercise a bit more patience!
As they are locals they will probably go for a long weekend so I would guess that the only busy day will be the Sunday if you go on 4th March. We will probably book later in the year. I think mid Feb to Mid March should be OK for the snow. Conditions this year were exceptional I think but Bansko is quite high and I think the top will always be OK.
I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago because we were concerned about the same thing. I was assured by some one ( I think Bansko George) who said that it was the exceptional snow conditions this year that made it so busy and the fact that the bank holiday ran into the weekend.
Looking at the webcams why didnt they keep the resort open a little longer this year?
So you went the same week as me - where did you stay? I didn't think it was that busy - I pretty much went straight up on chairs etc - I have suffered awful queuing in France in the past.
Hmm - I know they say this year was exceptional - that's why I worry if I book now while still in all the glory of how great a time it was - it will come round next year and there will be no snow or something - previously in Borovets and in Romania I have been let down by lack of snow. That said, ...

That said, Bansko does seem to have the better track record out of all the Balkan resorts generally so here's hoping....
Stayed at Perun in Bansko, fabulous hotel can thoroughly recomend it although next year we fancy the Kempinski Grand Arena - the one at the bottom gondola station. In the Balkan Holidays brochure I notice it is B&B which would make us go out and eat in local bars and restaurants which we didnt do this year because we found the hotel food very good.
