Eating out in the local restaurants is a must even if you do have half board as they are soooooo cheap. We had half board at the Pirin but ate out 5 nights. Only spent £200 all week and had plenty of drinks too!!
Staying at the Perun the walk was a little further in to town than the Pirin so it was so easy to eat at hotel. We did walk into town several times for drinks and to look at shops etc. although the weather was a little cold and there was a lot of snow in the town that week made the journey in the dark a little difficult. Although the hotel would drive you into town and pick up again at an arranged time and place for 1 lev per person per journey.
We are going to give the Strazhite a go next year. I liked the position as sort of halfway between the gondola and the town meaning you could walk back from the gondola and not wait for buses depending of course how many drinks you have in Happy End first!!!!!!!
The Happy end will be the nearest bar if we go to Grand Arena. We thought they were expensive compared with other places for drinks. We were charged 4 levs for 500ml bottles of beer compared with 2 levs in the Perun. Do they serve food there if so was it good? Mind you they will have a different chef by next year!
I agree that the Happy End charges slope prices but I thought we only paid 3 lev for a beer. I like the bar though and they often have live music. They do food and it always looked good coming out. I only had a tomato soup though on the last day. It was lovely though and steaming hot - most unusual for Bulgaria!!
I stayed at the Perun that week too. I thought it was fantastic - exceeded all my expectations. I plan to return there next year. Other people I spoke to at the Perun said they were going to try the Strazhite next year. I liked the look of Grand Arena as 5* and the location etc but I didn't want B&B. I will be on my own with my 5yr as per this year so unfortunately can't really go out and get bevied up like I did in ski years gone past. I suits me to go back there, have a ...

I suits me to go back there, have a dinner provided and then just chill out. Cameron and I went to the pool and jacuzzi every night - we are both keen swimmers and my son is very lively! - and most nights had it to ourselves so for me, the Perun really suits. Will go back there again next year and then maybe try a different one another year.
Did you go with Balkan to the Perun? There was al chatty little blonde boy and his Mum in our Welcome meeting along with two young couples. We were the older beginners trying to keep a low profile amongst all the more experienced skiers.
If you wanted to go to Grand Arena the supplement is £86 half board. The advantage here is you dont have to wait for bus transport to and from the hotel.
