re: Pros/Cons of buying Your own skis ?
I've ordered my helmet -- should arrive tomorrow, Oh God, I'm getting old and sensible !!!!!!!!!!!!
So, if any one catches me skiing without a lid on from now on you have my permission to beat me with a big stick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Another advantage is that you will know how your skis are going to feel as soon as you get on the piste, this will save a couple of days learning how your skis can carve etc, you can also get exactly the right ski for your standard and know that it will be serviced properly and waxed ready to go from day one of your holiday.
The only disadvantage can be the cost of ski carriage with some of the so called budget airlines, the charters seem to have kept it reasonable.
Oh and of course if you ...

Oh and of course if you keep em for a few years you may miss out on the latest technology on the newest skis, though I have had mine a few years now and dont see it as a problem.
Bought my first set 8 years ago cost £112 and have used them 14 times .Add to this approx £18 ski carriage each time and the cost averages out at £26 per holiday so with all the other advantages of your own skis I think it is the better option. Also if you are sneaky and pack a few things in you ski bag it increases your luggage allowance.
dbut
Good if you know someone in resort that will store your ski's yearly to save paying the air carriage everytime
Also who can service them for you for when you arrive and deliver them to your apartment on day of arrival
Especially if you come to Bansko every year and do not go elsewhere. Why take them home when someone can store them this way for you. Some people go more than once or twice and this is a very cheap alternative ..... as i say.. especially if you know someone in ...

the only downside being shredding them on any rocks poking through the snow n believe me some of the rented ones i've had have had some serious grooves in them!!!!
Like dbut we also use the ski bag to put more luggage in. Went to Italy in feb, wizz air with their 15 joke kg's, (the wife's chemicals can way more then that) so we paid for for 1 lot of ski/board carrage, we used my snowboard bag and put 2 pairs of Ski's, poles & boots in, when checking in the bags were still over 15kg each, the check in girl even suggested to put more luggage in the board bag so in went hairdryer, home made Rakia etc. etc. God knows what the it weighed in the end ...
