re: Crime?

Regarding crime in Borovetz, this is our 5th time with young daughters ( just 2 of us this time ) we have never felt unsafe anywhere in the resort. Only place to beware is the buzz bar as our daughter had her phone stolen last year. As other people have mentioned As for the Lion hotel we have stayed there and would thoroughly recommend it ! Message back for specifics about the hotel if you wish if you want.

Cheers Ceri ( Pauls wifey )

re: Crime?

Hi guys thanks for the replies!

I am not worried was just interested as seem to come across few reviews mentioning it recently! I live in Stoke so I'd feel safe anywhere Very Happy

I am across Borovets this Saturday with my dad and our partners. Not sort of people who look for trouble or big drinkers so sure there no problem was just out of interest!

Thanks Ceri I have made a separate post about hotel

re: Crime?

Hi Just to put your mind at rest a little more. I live here permanently a little way out from Borovets but can honestly say that I have never felt safer anywhere in the world and I am well travelled. If you take the obvious precautions you will be just fine. Enjoy your holiday

re: Crime?

we come from Lebanon...Crime is an entertainment here Smile Despite the disinformation the west gets, its the safest place to walk late at night, alone , men or women with thousand dollars in hand.

Crime is luck...you might be attacked in Heaven one day. Its still a possibility. One of my last concerns really Very Happy

re: Crime?

Kieren,

No worries, I live down the road... brought up just outside Macclesfield, now live in Newport, 30 min away!

Put it this way I dont have a problem with Stoke, been to Boro about 7 times in the last 5 years and I would feel much safer in Boro than Stoke!!

Stayed at the Lion on my own (I'm female) and felt fine.

Only prob I ever had was in Buzz Bar. Had ski jacket knicked 1st time. Next year me and my friend put our coats in cloak room then had issues with management about ...

Wouldn't put me off going in Buzz Bar if I wanted a late dance BUT be careful of your belongings!!

Crime, especially attacks against individuals are virtually unknown, but the tide is turning, especially here in Bansko.

The popularity of the resort, with Romanians, Greeks etc not only brings in good tourists, but the other element as well.. Organised crime groups are starting to appear, targeting tourist apartments, in order to break-in and rob when the owners are out. Two apartments last week were broken into, and cash was taken..
The local police and associated Romanian and Greek police task forces in town are advising all apartment complexes to make sure they lock the outer reception door, or make reception security be more aware and challenge any unrecognised individuals... There was an attempt to break into an apartment in the Monestry complex, unknown to the group they had tripped a COT Security silent alarm, and were caught in the act, COT are not known for their soft approach, so lets just say the Greek perpetrators were errr, restrained Wink
It is still very safe here, walking around with no problems at any time of the day and night, but don't be stupid with your belongings, especially cash, if you have a safe in the room or apartment, use it, do not change up huge amounts at one time, always close complex doors, and make yourself known to the reception/security staff...
Just a subnote, the accommodation that is being targeted is tourist, the locals not suffering at all... now some will say that its because they have no money but have you seen some of their houses and cars ??? It is much more likely in my opinion the fact that if caught attempting to break-in, they will be shot by the owner.. and all the police will do is help them carry the body out.. Yep, things are pretty safe here...
