DO ANY SKIERS HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT BOARDERS OR VICE VERSA?

NO I AM NOT TRYING TO CAUSE A WAR Exclamation Believe it or not I am one of the rare completely neutral, Have been using the slopes for over 11 years now and I read a post recently that said it was mostly the beginners (boarders or skiers) who have this problem and I am sorry but I am inclined to agree, KEEP IT NICE Exclamation Can you see our fellow mountain users point of view? Hi

I think one of the problems, which occurs mid week. Is sometimes there are simply too many people (skiers and boarders) who have had there first few lessons, then they go off on thier own. They think they are good, because they can point down hill and go. But the problem is they dont have the experience or abillity to read and react to the snow conditions and the other riders in front of them. And we've all done it!, I certainly have!

I know sometimes it seems as if its beginer boarders, but this is because they only have 3 days of lessons, then thier let loose with no guide or instruction. So having no choice, its not really thier fault. But after all this, I bet everyone here has had an "out of control" moment and ploughed into someone else.

I was in Borovets in january, and had a fantastic time. This was largely due to the people I met, and rode the mountain with. A mixture of skiiers and Boarders.

So lets not say "I board" or "I ski", lets just say we all do "mountain sports".

re: DO ANY SKIERS HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT BOARDERS OR VICE VERSA?

I think a majority of the blame can be placed with the instructors. I have heard many a bad comment made by the instructors. This encourages the learners to become the same. Both ski and snowboard instructors are guilty of this but more so the ski instructors. Is this supposed to be part of the instruction? Another point to note, how many people at the beginning of the week recieve the talk about mountain safety and code of conduct?

Safety and code of conduct?
I'm not sure we had a little discussion but not nearly enough i think. Our instructor had us for 1 day then phoned in sick the following day at the same time he left us standing there waiting! 1 hour and 10 mins later we had another instructor who did'nt really seem to learn us just let us get on with it and an odd coment here and there.
A good example maybe? Confused

re: DO ANY SKIERS HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT BOARDERS OR VICE VERSA?

Hi guys,

Good example for you, I got back from bansko last week where I was boarding (wicked time by the way!) and had a situation where a guy who was skiing, backwards I must point out, skied into my girlfriend who had stopped on her board. He then proceeded to jab my girlfriend with his ski pole!! Suffice to say I was not best pleased, I have nothing against skiers but surely the consideration should have been his when facing the wrong way??

Question

2 days later me and both children met up with OH at bottom of slopes to go for lunch he had met up with some other boarders so we go to the restaurnat and the bloke is sat there waiting for OH the look on his face and on OHs when he realised the kiddy skiier his mate and been slagging off was out little one, he couldnt say sorry enough and bought the kids some choccy, and rest of week he was kind and polite to the children if he saw them out on slopes

Deano, you are correct but it doesn't not matter if the skier was skiing switch or not. The person lower on the slope has right of way no matter what.
Please see the FIS code of conduct below. Every mountain user should know this. If you don't, you should not be on the slopes.

The skier/rider in front has priority - leave enough space. Leave plenty of space when overtaking a slower slope user.

Look up and down the mountain before moving off or entering a marked run.

Snowboarders should be aware of the blind spot over and just behind their leading shoulder.

Only stop at the edge of the piste or where you can clearly be seen.

When climbing up or down, always keep to the side of the piste.

Obey all signs and markings - they are there for your safety.

In case of accident, mark the area with your skis/board, provide help and alert rescue services.

All those involved in an accident, including witnesses, should exchange names and addresses.

All the above are legally binding for all slope users.

re: DO ANY SKIERS HAVE ANYTHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT BOARDERS OR VICE VERSA?

I agree with fiona,

kiwi1, I wasnt saying there was a problem with skiing switch, or even that my girlfriend was bumped into, as fiona says it happens, it was the sharp poke in the ribs with a ski pole my girlfriend received!!

I'm sure there must be some rule somewhere that says dont use equipment as a weapon!
