I allways take my portable dvd player it has a 9 inch screen and 2 head phone sockets. It's not only good for hotel / appartment use but great for use on the plane and to pass the time away at airports and on long transfers. One thing to check is the battery life fortunately mine is a whopping 8hrs.
p.s. keeps the kids happy too.
Hi Everyone,
re dvd players.
In the UK we have the PAL video standard. by far the best.
the USA Japan and parts of asia are NTSC standard, in the industry we remember this as (not twice the same colour) because the colours flicker if you have ever watched the tv in the states you would have noticed the colours were veery orange. its got better over the years with the advent of Hi Def cameras.
France and a small part of Eeurope are Secam standard.
look on your dvds for the standard ...

look on your dvds for the standard PAL NTSC or Secam and look o your dvd player for the same standard.
If you are taking dvd's from the UK to watch
A bit of history for you.
In 1972, the first color broadcast was made, again of a manifestation. The SECAM color system was used, because PAL was used in most western countries (except for France, where SECAM was invented). After several years, the entire programming was broadcast in color.
For our house we bought a TV in Bulgaria the dvd player PAL standard we bought in the UK and took it on the plane, both work fine together and play original copies of movies.
If you have a mac laptop you can use the tv out socket on the mac to output the dvd player signal to the tv as well. Also useful are the small personal dvd players they all have av out allowing you to put the av out cable in to the back of a tv and play the movie through your tv.
Be warned if you are buying dvd,s in Bulgaria make sure they are PAL standard not Secam or you will not be able to play them.
like wise NTSC will not play in a PAL player.
another simple alternative is take your laptop and play your movies on that.
