re: Do you have to have lessons?

Jason - I have never heard such garbage on this board in over 10 years after having read your last post.

For the first 8 years I skied I took lessons and the instructors got me doing things on skis I never dreamed would be possible. Started with snowploughing, the very basic skill that everyone should learn, then parallels, check turns, one legged skiing, skiing backwards, until now I can free ski any slope in the world if required.

To blatently accuse the highly professional sports people that they "don't want you to learn anything" is both rediculous and a slur against their profession.

Depending on how this thread goes from here I may well delete it due to the complete and utter insults you have made against some very talented and dedicated people.

Pete.

re: Do you have to have lessons?

never said they dont want you return. that is the point they do. so teach you minimal. they want you to hold back . somrtimes pointing your skis down the mountain and seeing how you get on with a competent skier can sort the men from the boys. most of us are never going to be olyimpic skiers with perfect posture . somrtimes someone nagging at you doesnt bring the best out of you

re: Do you have to have lessons?

here here pete, perhaps it would be worth deleting and Steve could post the question again as i find jasons response quite upsetting judging by the experience i have had with the ski school i use in boro, the instructors are all extremely professional, caring people trying to pass on their skills and knowledge

re: Do you have to have lessons?

Steve,

why not get yourself some lessons before you go? do you have an indoor slope near you?
Failing that.. get lessons and judge for yourself how you feel the instructor is. If you're not happy, speak to the ski school (if you use one) and change instructors.

Last year I went to bansko and didn't really care for the snowboard instructor.. felt his advice was extremely poor.

however the wife and pal had a fantastic ski instructor who went out of his way to help everyone in his ...

Steven

You never said what level of skiing you have done on the dry slopes, my friends son learnt on dry slopes but got to a level 5 with a ski instructor, he is perfectly fine on snow and is learning to instruct now. If you have had limited experience then I am shocked you are considering skiing without lessons. people die doing this sport and you can kill not just yourself but other people as well. if your experience is limited get some lessons, one to one instruction is cheap in BG, ...

re: Do you have to have lessons?

Jason,

You are a complete tool fella!

All you have done is come on these boards and try and wind people up.

"Don't bother having lessons"? You have just showed us all your level of experience.

I wish Pete would kick you off as you are starting to get on everybodys nerves now!

By your own admission you thought Bulgaria was crap so what are you still hanging around these boards for?

Go away you plonker.

Thanks,

Benn
