never said a singlr lesson. also if you get good conditions there is no ice. if you are still learning your not going to be at speed. he has been to indoor as well. its not as if the guy has never put on skis . also i said with a competant skier
lack of speed you wont travel too far out of control. snow plough will get you down any slope if all fails . again down to the person that matters . i learnt plough with ski school but now teaching myself parallel . ok , its been four trips but i am now in control down any slope. not the best looker but i ski without paying a lot of money out.
steven , sorry got side tracked with other peoples opinions . can you snow plough , if not would suggest learning that as a minimal . i couldnt do it that well but it is an emergency . learnt parallel by watching and giving it a go.
When i go skiing its normally just my 10yr old and me..so i always book into ski school, its great for meeting people, learning new skills and a great way to get to know the slopes. I always feel more confident if i'm with someone that knows where we are going and what they are doing. This year 6 of us are coming out with mixed abilities so we are all booked into ski school....can't wait
You say that your mate may offer to show you the ropes, i can only say he must be v patient, just remember its his / her holiday too. Trust me the novelty factor for your mate will soon wear off (no matter how patient they may be) and they will want to have a blast on their own. Steven,
You say that your mate may offer to show you the ropes, i can only say he must be v patient, just remember its his / her holiday too. Trust me the novelty factor for your mate will soon wear off (no matter how patient they may be) and they will want to have a blast on their own. Go for the lessons, you have nothing to lose, with people of equal ability, all going through the same thing and it ends up being a laugh. The instructor should make learning fun and if you find your picking it up faster than everyone else they can move you to a different class. You usually have 2hrs in the morning and 2 in the afternoon so you can meet up with your mate and show him your skill - i believe progression is much quicker this way. From a Value for money angle, lift pass is £94, whilst a full adult ski pack with 4 hours instruction is £146 (this is at Bansko).
I say have lesson and a good crack with the rest of group then meet up with your mate. Remember you are setting the foundations and skiing is a skill its harder to correct rubbish later, than learn good at the start...
We've had lessons in Bulgaria, France and Italy. The instructors in Bulgaria are brilliant - and you get a lot more time for your money. Also, don't underestimate the social side of having lessons - we've met some lovely people over the years and had a real laugh
Steven, got to agree with Suziblue, join the ski lessons, this will be my third time skiing now all in Bulgaria, first time not so good but last year Instructor excellent can't wait to get back out in March to improve even more, JOIN THE LESSONS!!
hi steven,
myself and my family learn on dry slope for a whole season before going on our first holiday.with dry slope your technique has to be better with snow you can get away with lot.i would have lessons in resort due to bad habits you will have picked up.every time we go on holiday we have lessons and we are good skiers.you can never stop learning.this year we will all be having lessons its a way of meeting people.
Did you learn to drive that way? Would you feel happy knowing people were on the roads learning that way ... people with no L plates or means of identification?
