self taught skier , pick up , develop bad habits , an instructor isnt telling you what to do , they are sharinmg there skills and coaching you ....... even top sport ppl have coaching , incl F1 drivers and the like
but back to your ask , you dont have to have lessons
Jeeze Steve if you have never skied on snow then just have some lessons mate!!
I'm not being funny mate but its out of respect for your fellow man on the slopes with you!
You will end up clashing teeth with some poor oblivious soul and spoiling their holiday as well as your own!
Have lessons steve, you will learn more in 1 day than in a week if you dont, lessons give you the basics, the rest will come over time and effert on your part, oh and depending on your fear levels
the thing with lessons is the instructors dont want you to learn anything so you go back next year to learn nothing again. i would not suggest you go down a slope knowing nothing . a good buddy could be better if he knows what he is doing
Steve I have used the same instructor for group tuition for the last 3 years, and he has been really great. He has taught me an awful lot, improved my style and technique and boosted my confidence no end, he even took two of us off at the end of the day for a private lesson as we were struggling to master turns on the steeper part of a red. Last year he took myself and my husband out for a meal in a village about 20k outside of the resort. To say instructors don't want you to return is ...

Last year he took myself and my husband out for a meal in a village about 20k outside of the resort. To say instructors don't want you to return is cruel and insulting, there may be a rouge or two out there but to tar them all with the same brush is verging on libelous. I won't recommend any particular ski school as i have only experience 2 in Borovets and chose to stay with our second experience. If you google ski schools in borovets (or whichever resort you are going to) there will be a few options and i'm sure there are others who will have had good experiences they are wishing to share with you. I was with a couple in January who got one to one tuition for their daughter and i'm pretty sure she said it worked out at less than £30 or could have been leva per hour
Enjoy your holiday whatever the weather, anything beats a week at work in my book
