Driving from Sofia to Pamps

I appreciate that this question has probably been asked before but is it straight forward driving from Sofia airport to Pamps or a bit tricky?

re: Driving from Sofia to Pamps

Hi Rob,
Went to pamps for xmas, we went on a coach from the airport to pamps. Roads are very windy (kids threw up into plastic bags) so go careful. Remember, your probably a good driver but over there they are a law unto themselves.( over-taking on blind bends etc).Just go careful.

Hi it is straight forward, follow signs for Plovdiv then Pamporovo, if driving with hire car ensure that you have snow tyres you will need them, if the hire company say you will not need them please insist or go else where, snow chains i find are difficult to put on and take off and take so long, it is not nice laying on the ground in the freezing cold attaching snow chains.

Amanda

We have hire a 4WD to drive from Sofia to Pamps - they did give us the option of hiring snow chains but I havent bothered as I assumed the 4wd (Chevrolet Captive) would be OK - do I need the chains?

re: Driving from Sofia to Pamps

as long as you have Winter tyres you will be ok, it is a busy road. I am not sure pamporova is signposted when you turn off just before Plovdiv, but I know Smolyan is, that is just past Pamporovo

re: Driving from Sofia to Pamps

Are the road signs now in English though Amanda - I thought they were all in Bulgarian and only readable if you could read Bulgarian?

re: Driving from Sofia to Pamps

yes Helen is correct they are in both laguage this may help:
Пловдив Plovdiv
Смолян Smolyan
Pamporovo Пампорово

I would ensure that the hire company have winter tyres, i have a four wheel drive and with normal summer tyres i would not be confident.
