What is the best thing to do, get money changed in England or in Borovets? Does any one know which would work out better. I know the rate changes all the time so nothing is certain. I will be staying in the Rila and according to this site they do currency exchange. I know its really early to be thinking about this stuff but its better to be prepared right.
Chris - take a bit to get you over your first day or so then use the ATM. Been lots of discussions in the past about this, I find it easier to just be able to go to the cash machine a couple of times a week instead of having to change all my money in the UK before I go. Exchange rate also usually better in BG than in the UK. Okay, your bank will probably charge you a couple of quid a time for using the ATM, but I'm more than happy to pay this for the convenience of not having to have all ...

Your best bet is to use a cashpoint out here or change money here - the rate is ALWAYS better in BG than in the UK. We went to our bank today (in Samokov) and the rate was 2.38 which is much better than UK banks are offering. Whatever happens, do not change money at one of the street-booths...we warn people each time and then when they get caught out by signing the receipt before they read the small-print properly they then get upset...!
I can keep you posted throughout the season ...

I can keep you posted throughout the season with regards to the exchange rate if that's of any help.
This year I used the booth in the new shopping mall, it was open when the banks were closed, it was offering 2.17 when the booths were offering 2.20, I thought it looked a safer option, was planning to use it again when I come out in Jan, was this a bit risky??, if so will come down earlier from the slopes to use the bank, or use my card in the ATM machine.
Any advice gratefully received and acted upon, thanks.
hi all
i last went to boro 3 years ago and i used the booths along the main drag to change money, have things changed since then, or did i get done over the last time ????
Bank, bank, bank, bank...........
Take sterling, and your passport. If in Bansko go to Alpha Bank, the best day rate in town, better than any booth, and at least 10% better than UK...
All atm cards will charge commission, even Nationwide, for all their bl**dy offers of commission free...
