The answer is you should have done your research before buying!!! Plovdiv is now a nice new shiny airport all it needs is some planes to fly into it! The only flights from Uk that used to fly to Plovdiv where the charter ones and then only in winter none of the major airlines use it they all go to Sofia and I think all the charter flights are using Sofia again this winter. Rumours persist of Wizz,Easy and Ryan flying to Plovdiv but they have been saying that for years. So sorry to say but ...

Ps just out of interest did the agent who sold you your house tell you that there are loads of flights into Plovdiv?
No The agents were very good infact, we flew in sofia and spent some time there then made our way up to Pamporovo.
I thought it was just me not being able to find flights to Plovdiv.
A friend of mine went on the web this ski season and got some flights to plovdiv straight away just lucky I guess and just what you want to hear when you couldent find any yourself.
I have heard that Smolyan is going to open up to commercial filghts in the next 5 years. I will just have to keep on checking ...

To be honest a trip from Sofia is not so bad there is plenty to see and there are some brilliant restaurants to stop off at on the way up the mountain. My favourite is by the river the trout is lovely.
I have just found out that most of the holiday companies buy them in bulk for the package deals they offer but that they do ofload them last minute as flights only.
We usually go flight only with Balkan Holidays to Plovdiv - only problem with this is that it is expensive if you book early - usually approx £200 whereas we usually pay between £60-100 by booking late. Last year however we flew easyjet to Sofia (£90) + hired a car from there - I actually now prefer this as it only adds about 1.5 hours to the trip + there is a convenient Maccy D's for a break on the way
Hi Joff, you are a star thanks very much for this info, to be honest i quite enjoy driving myself in Europe have not had a chance to drive in Bulgaria yet. I wonder if you can get a sat nav with the hire car, i can get lost in the supermarket... mj
Mark, the answer to this is to get someone to pick you up at the airport to drive you up to Momchilovtsi, leave a rental car with you for your stay and then drive you back to the airport when you leave.
Hi Mark ,there are only 4 turnings after you leave Sofia airport and NOW 2 small roundabout to go straight across to get to Momchilovtsi. Shouldn't be problem finding ur way .I met a couple from London in Kotsi's restaurant on Sunday night who were travelling around Bulgaria on holiday and found Momchill with a Sat Nav and were well pleased with it. Failing that Jordan [AKA Dancho] and friend of ours from Smolyan and Momchill hires cars out and will do as Andie says .Pick you up at the ...

BTW i think i met you or your wife and bro-in-law at Kotsi's when your daughter had that day broken her ankles skiing . My nephew had broken his kneecp and detatched his tendon the same day . We arrived at the hospital station on the slopes just as she was being driven away in the blood wagon.
I'm over agin in OCT and FEB so maybe see you there .Nigel

I don't know who the person called Mr Mr is probably some disgruntled banskoite I expect, Appologies for that last comment as it is being to harsh on the good people of Bansko. Mr Mr If you read the title of this post its about travel to Pamporovo, not lets have a pop at Pamporovo because I'm Hacked off Plus you obviously know nothing about Pamporovo.
To everyone else on this posting just ignore Mr Mr's inane comments and don't rise to the bait if we all ignore him and dont give him the satisfaction of replying to him perhaps he will slither back down his dark little hole. Mj
ps and what the hell does start the catching game early mean.
actually I dont care......
