We normally book our flights in August/September from luton with wizz air still cheap but we do look around first. We have flown out of luton with Wizz and back to Heathrow with BA
That's like asking how long is a piece of string. It will depend on the airline you use and one thing is for sure, the airlines will announce their prices on different dates In so much as BA will almost certainly have flights to Sofia a couple of months before Wizz Air. Early is generally the way to go but if you are flexible and there are not too many of you, very last minute is also quite good.
BA have February flights available as well. So do Bulgaria Air. Depending on your dates you may still get return flights for around £160 (which will include baggage).
Check on www.opodo.co.uk but now is the time to book - the days of getting cheap last minute flights are long gone. Now each airline have a few flights at various price levels, and once they are gone, the price goes up. And up. And up.
There is February and there is February 1/2 term week. There are also two half terms and the latter one Sat 15th is more expensive. A lot of the websites offer flights 11 months in advance based on the return date. So Air BG were not offering flights for 1/2 term on the website until 22nd March. However if you had phoned their London office before that date they were taking bookings with a promo rate of £196 rtrn. At the same time Lufthansa and Air France for example were offering flights over £200 (not direct flights). It does seem however that Lufthansa released some more seats last week as a return to Sofia could be had for £170 although these were limited in availability. The cheapest that I could find from Heathrow to Sofia for the 15th Feb was with Al Italia however that included a 12 hour stop off in Italy somewhere which made the journey time 20hrs. I also tried single flights out with one airline and single back with another however whilst that works with trains it wasn't working with the airlines. There are plenty of cheap flights during Feb but not necessarily 1/2 term week 15th -22nd and any of the cheaper ones are definately limited availability.
Emjay - do some parts of the country have the week before, w/c 8th Feb as their half term?? I have come across some school in Wales that have w/c 22nd but not seen any from 8th?
Hi Snow White, going by this year, there were some schools that started their half term one week earlier than my kids. These may have been private schools. Certainly some schools seem to save their occasional and inset days and tag them on at the end or begining of a term.
