Hi everyone.
This is our first time on a snow holiday and to Borovets . I have a lot to ask but not all in one go
To start , what currency do I take ? I'm from the UK , is Euro's ok ? Can those card top ups get used there, cant remember the type.
We have private hired a wooden cabin ,is there any reviews on these, they look nice with a sauna .
Is there a swimming pole or spa that we can also go to?

We have got hold of 2 used snow boards that we will be brining with us but we are not sure whether to hire 3 more , does it cost much ?
As for the pass for the ski lift is it best to get them when we are there?
We are really looking forward to this but theres so much to find out.
Many thanks
Martin
Lev is used everywhere. There are loads of money changing booths (Booths have a yellow crown) and a cashpoint outside the Rila hotel in the middle of the resort. I would take English cash with you and change it there as I have found the exchange rate in Resort has been better. Euros are taken but I personally wouldn't bother unless you have some already that you want to use up. I have not used the top up cards.

We have used the Alpin chalets. They are basic but clean, warm and cosy. The sauna is great at the end of a days skiing/boarding.
I cant help with board hire price. As for passes we get those in resort too. You can get them all over and they are all the same price.
We arrive on the 20th of January for a few days fingers crossed the snow situation improves!
Hi Martin,
As everyone else says take Clean £20 notes as the exchange rates are always better out there and don't be tempted to change money at the airport, wait till you get to the resort. There are cashpoints aswell to use which offer good rates but you do get charged for each withdrawal, so only worth drawing out larger amounts . I personally use the bank under the Rila hotel opposite the Gondala station. You can get snowboard hire for about £10 per day including boots.
As above lev's is currency, expect 2.15 - 2.25, and better rate in resort either by ATM or best value to change clean £20's. The chap that hired you the villa would be best to advise on pool. I think you can pay at Rila hotel to use their pool (bottom of slopes - google earth / trip advisor ). There are a few villas directly opposite / to the left of the Rila, you may be lucky these are quite close.

Hi Martin and welcome

Personally I wouldn't be too worried about boards most (Borosports / Hunters), do an all in package including lift pass board / boot hire and lessons which is frankly hard to beat at around £200. In my opinion you will definitely need lessons and would probably need to pay carriage in any case. If affordable get to MK bowl for a 3hr course. Boarding (and skiing), is a steep learning curve and harder than it looks. Both are incredibly exhilarating and you will have an absolute ball !
Your going to need clothes (jackets, salopettes, gloves, underclothes). Aldis / Lidls have occasional excellent deals and there are lots of others with reasonable kit at reasonable cost (or you can pay "sky's the limit" but no real need)
Borovets (in my opinion) is cheap and cheerful and brilliant value and has a quirky feel of its own. I love the place
When are you going? Which chalets are you booked into?
I would advise to make sure that the board you have is right for you and your skill level. I made the mistake of bringing a board on my first trip to Borovets and I did not get on well with it at all (too long and too stiff for a beginner). I would really consider leaving them at home and hiring as it will probably be better for your holiday and your wallet, unless money is not too much of an issue and you want to bring ...

Couple of places to consider that we have used in the past:
We always take £20 notes as it means less actual notes than £10 notes and I'm not sure how the Crown Booths would react to £50 notes. Exchange in Borovets is better than the UK. There are also ATM's in resort if you don't want to carry lots of actual cash. Never heard of a Top Up Card. I would not bother with Euros as this would be double exchanging. Leva is used in the resort.
Also there are loads of people who return year after year and they generally meet up in Bobbys Bar. It's great fun there and lovely food and drink.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Our children are 12 , 13 , 15 are they allowed in bobbys Bar in the evening ? It would be good if there are Bars that the children can come in ,in the evening so we can have a Drink
We are eating out for the whole time we are there, any good places ? Yes I have seen Bobbys Bar and will be going there.
We are there for 2 weeks ,thought we would get the most of the snow so we need a good guide of whats on offer and do's and dont's lol
Kids are allowed in. I'm not sure if there is a cut off time though. Probably the best thing to do is add Bobbys Bar Borovets on Facebook and Kas will be able to confirm this for you.
I think most bars allow children up to a certain point. It's very much a family resort with late night bars for adults too.

Lots of good places to eat. Favorites of mine are Bobbys and Venice Steak House. The Mexican Mamacita's has really nice food, but every time I have been there (3 or 4 occasions) the live music is so loud you can't hear what the person on the other side of the table is saying. For this reason I will not be going this year.
On Sundays people from this forum meet in Bobbys Bar so that would be well worth your while to meet, make friends and get advice. Borovets is fantastic if you like to meet new people and make new friends.
What chalets have you booked? What are your dates? There are lots of people going out on 25 Jan.
