First trip Jan '07.

Hey, making my first trip out to Bulgaria on the 7th of january. Just wondering if anyone can give general tips to a dozen 18-21 year olds? What money? Leva, Euro or Sterling? How much food and more importantly..drink costs?

Any help appreciated.

currency is levs but they go into the euro on jan 1st so they will also be accepting euros, we're going to boro on the 6th and just taking a small amount of levs with us and changing the rest over there as we found the exchange rates better in the banks in resort.

Food and drink was very cheap last time i went a meal was generally around £4 and drinks were around £1 a pint and they have lots of happy hours on spirits and cocktails. worth bearing in mind too that thier spirit measures ...

sorry daniel but i think you'll find that as of the first of january bulgaria are now a european union country along with romania. they will be able to accept the euro but the currency will remain as lev until approx 2011 when its forecast they will make the permanent switch over to the euro. so anybody that has lev already changed theres no need to panic. hope this helps!!

It is correct to say that Bulgaria joins the EU (European Union) in Jan, but that is not the same as joining the EURO (monetary union)!

The currency in Bulgaria will remain the Lev, but euros and sterling are also accepted, as they have been for several years.

Are you sure they'll accept euros? - we are in the EU but I don't think I'd get a drink in my local if I tried to pay with euros. I'd take levs or sterling and forget about the toytown money!!

Probably not in Sheffield though! Also don't think you are going to find M&S in Bansko!!
