Just been informed by Balkan holidays that my flight from Manchester to Sofia on 28th January has been cancelled. They have now offered me a flight from Manchester to Plovdiv which is fine, however, the return flight leaves at 6am meaning we lose a night at the hotel as we get picked up at 1am!!!! Wasn't too happy obvioulsy.
Was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this kind of thing with Balkan holidays?

We are thinking of driving to Nottingham/East Midlands now instead as the flight times are much better.
It's not really their fault if insufficent people book the flights -- and yes this can often be common place. The flights are scheduled months and months in advance but if there are not enough takers for the flights then they will often reduce the number of flights and double up to fill the planes.
It's purely a business decision that they have to make.
Stephen, same has happened to us on 21st january,we were transfered to Plovdiv then changed again back to Sophia on a SCHEDULE flight. But we are a 50 strong party (the famous Failsworth 50)and they would lose a lot of business so mention the schedule flight option given to us.
Balkan have changed all their flight schedules. Flights to Sofia have been cancelled and replaced where possible by scheduled flights operated by Hemus. The timings out of Plovdiv have been amended to give earlier or later depatures depending upon the UK airport. This will allow Balkan to operate the UK flights with just 3 aircraft - two less than last winter. Could this mean that the Tupolevs will not fly this winter?
Kevin, you are correct. All aircraft will be doing a double rotation to the UK this year. The Tupolev will only be used if it is required as they have been leased out to another airline. Only the airbus and the boeing of hemus air will be used.
the insiders is right there it has nothing to do with them joining the EU all planes that fligh in the EU have to meet the same standards. I have read some where that balken and another airline has merged which could be why there are so many changes
Sam, BH Air have not merged with another airline. As a charter airline they have only allocated x number of planes to Balkan Holidays London which is why the planes this year have to do double rotations to the UK. Also, the Tupolevs will not be used, only the airbus and if needed, the aircraft from Hemus Air.
BH Air dont only serve Balkan Holidays International Companies. One the of the Airbuses from BH Air is in Nigeria working for VIRGIN at the minute.
I have the pleasure of working in Brussels for the EU and I can tell you on the 9th October the EU commissioner sent a paper to the Bulgarian government in regards to the EASA and the EU’s Joint Aviation Authority have discovered substantial lapses in Bulgarian aviation safety. The fact that even the official aircraft of the Bulgarian state is lacking an EU safety certificate is evidence of neglect of those requirements.
On October 9, Transport and Communications Minister Petar Moutafchiev admitted that local air carriers will not be able to meet all safety targets and certification requirements by the end of the year when the period expires. As an emergency measure, Moutafchiev said the Government would ask the EC to extend the end-2006 deadline for meeting aviation safety standards by three months.
I find your comment that this is Rubbish is insulting, My understanding is that this forum is open for people to place there comments and remarks.
Maybe the next time you will think before you are so rude
