Has anyone or does anyone know someone who has chosen snowboarding as one of their GCSE PE sports?
My son is doing his first year of a GCSE in PE , and before too long will have to select his four sports in which he will be assessed. He can easily choose his team sports but there has to be an individual sport, and as he is a good intermediate snowboarder having been 4 times, starting when he was 10, he thought this would be ideal.

Just wondered if anyone knows anything about this? Not filming, we can get that sorted, but choosing snowboarding as part of the GCSE.
Spoke to my son who is the same age and also doing snowboarding as part of his GCSE. His school said he has to be assessed by a qualified intructor but this can be done at the snowdome in Milton Keynes or abroad. Dont know much else as have to still get it all sorted.
Our son is year 11 and is doing GCSE PE (the same course) using skiing as his 3rd sport.
After consultation with the PE teacher, we downloaded the syllabus and assessment forms from the examining boards website and took them with us to Borovets both last year and this year. His ski instructor graded him and signed the forms. We had to help him with his English and spellings!! We made a cd of photos and dvd of him actually skiing the required elements. This is being submitted now for the final exam assessment.
Thanks Paul. I know they have to be assessed somewhere. And I think they have to be filmed so the examiners can see that they really can snowboard.
He had a few lessons and a lot of fun with Bobby in Borovets in January, so when we find out all the facts as to what is needed I'll need to get on to the skidvd guys with their helmet cams for next Feb half term!
No wonder he quite likes school... actually it would make a good reason to take him out of school for a week during term time ...

I used that excuse! And the fact that he is asthmatic and the Bulgarian mountain air helps (actually it does) - it was accepted by his head of year. Also said couldn't afford for him to go on the school ski trip - £1200 for dorm accommodation! Cost us just a little more for the whole family to Borovets.

I dont suppose you still have the link where you got the download from for reference.

If your school is like ours they will not give an inch on taking the kids out in term time. Mind you they are more than happy to have 2 days teacher training on the last two days before half term. Good for me and my son as we went to Boro a couple of days early and got the Yastrebets runs nearly to ourselves. We were there when it hit minus 30 on the top. Wow, it was like ...

Wow, it was like snowboarding on concrete first thing in the morning but great fun later on.
find out when the course work needs to be in, I did some GCSE a few years ago the course work had to be sent off by January. Depends when you are thinking of skiing next year.
