Hello

I just thought i would post to say hello.
I am Olly's Mum and marc the Hats wife unfortunately!
I have been following this site for weeks and decided I ought to take part in some of the discussions. olly has finally shown me how to use the site, which is making him angry as he can't ever get on his own computer.
I am part of the rabble coming out on the 16th of Feb, with Olly's gang. I am terrified after last years experience. My family constantly take the mick out of me because of my ...

I am part of the rabble coming out on the 16th of Feb, with Olly's gang. I am terrified after last years experience. My family constantly take the mick out of me because of my speed, which is slow to say the least!! hense the name as I'm always in a snowplough. Because of the bad snow last year we couldn't use green slopes so that has frightened me for life, but with Olly as my son it either join them or be totally left out.
So here goes on the 16th Feb, the terrified novice. If anyone see me I am open to suggestions and advice. or as olly says i just need a good push! Jan

re: Hello

Hello and welcome,

Put a tot of rum or brandy in your hot chocolate to take the edge of your nerves. Booze

Or try and afternoon of private tuition to see if a different point of view makes it all click in your head and feet. Very Happy

re: Hello

Brandy in the hot chocolate is a def help!

I am terrified of heights and for the first 4 years I went to beginners. Then one day I tipped one of the guys in the ski depot for helping me take off boots after a particularly horrific afternoon and he met me for the rest of the week with a shot of something which had the same burn as tequila and insisted on putting on my boots every day.

It all clicked into place - Alcohol is the way forward!

re: Hello

Well first let me tell you that when you had last years experience to ski on ice it will be much better going on snow Razz Razz
Second, don't let the mountain scare you, it must be your friend.. Its you who's skiing on it!
Third: yes alco can help for a bit but if you do a mantra it has the same effect!
(say -I can do this - in every turn or move you make!!)

Hi Jan!
I was delighted to hear that someone else seems to share the same ski speed as me i.e. so slow - almost at a stop - AND practically always in snowplough position! However, do not despair - this was my experience last year on my first ever ski holiday with not-so-great conditions! But our trip this year to Pamps was fabulous - I even got to 'parallel' ski at times but not at any great speed! I got an awful ribbing from my hubby - but as I told him he can be the speed merchant, I ...
I got an awful ribbing from my hubby - but as I told him he can be the speed merchant, I just wanted to perfect my technique!!!! He had to admit that I did seem 'in control' on the slopes - but then again, it wasn't too difficult seeing that I was still going along at a very slow pace but that still was quite a bit faster than last year! So, don't worry - you will have a ball and with this year's conditions, you will be amazed at how good you will be able to ski! So, Queen of the Snowplough, I think you will lose your title very soon. Best of luck with it and hope that you have a fantastic time - you lucky thing!!!! By the way, I did find that alcohol at lunchtime (brandy or rum in hot chocolate or a couple of hot wines) did in fact 'up' my speed in the afternoon on the skis!!!! Enjoy!! Mxx Very Happy

re: Hello

hi everyone,
Thanks so much for all your advice , I will take that all on board.

Maggie May - It's great to hear I'm not alone with this problem, as everyone seems to be constantly sailing past me on the slopes.
My whole family and Olly's friends are still taking the mick out of me, over a year later!!
I am desperate to be able to ski properly like everyone else, so here goes my second experience on the 16th Feb.

Thankyou all for replying to my message it's nice to hear from you. ...

Hiya

Like you I am off to pamps on the 16th and like you I have a son whose skiing puts me to shame. He is 7 this year but last year took me down a black run and nearly killed me I went into a bank at high speed which he and everyone else on the mountain found hilarious. The snow last year was awful but this is my 4th year out there and that was the only years bad snow I have seen. There has been 2 lots of snow this week and hopefully snow will be fab when we get there in 2 wks.

Also someone mentioned getting 1 on 1 tuition ....I would highly recommend it. My son was only 4 the first year we went and so was too small for ski school he had 1 on 1 all day every day hence why he is now a demon and I am still rubbish. The prices this year with Pamporovo ski school which thomson use is 45 levs for 2 hrs or 80 levs for a whole day. If you fancy this and are not with thomson speak to a lady called Bobbi at ski school and she will sort it you can't miss her she has bright red hair. Hope all this helps
