are the helmets I can buy in Bansko made to the same safety standards as they are in the UK.
I know that may sound daft to some but I do have experience of buying in a different country only to find I've ended up with a fake and I don't fancy risking my head with something I don't consider to be safe... if that makes sense
I would be cautious of buying on the internet for the following 2 important reasons.
1. it is difficult to get the size right, although many helmets can be adjusted an ill fitting helmet can cause problems.
2. it is best to take your goggles with you to ensure they fit correctly with the helmet, not much good if they wont fit against your eyes properly due to catching on the edge of the helmet!!
Cant figure some ppl out , they spends hundreds on ski gear , hundreds on trips away , buyt twhen it comes to a possibly life saving item , them scrimp ...... gota make sure it fits YOUR head 100% , and pay for the best you can afford , without compromise ( double check safety standard in it too )
we're into a very personal area here - it's easy to get sucked into the idea that in order to ensure your own personal safety you have to spend a ton of money - you don't. Last time I bought a helmet it was online - I followed their sizing guide - measured my head and bought the size accordingly - maybe I got lucky but it's a perfect fit - although Don makes a good point about the goggles aspect - that can be an issue. Best advice is to make sure it conforms to the relevant standards so you ...

Best advice is to make sure it conforms to the relevant standards so you can be fairly comfortable it won't break up if impacted. Personally I wouldn't chance it in resort - I would rather buy in the UK and take it with... I'd be worried I was buying a knock-off, but that's personal choice I guess.
Have to agree with Funski, a lower cost helmet will afford protection.
Generally speaking, if you buy a helmet that has the appropriate certification for £20 it will give the same protection as one costing £100. The difference will be probably more basic design, limited colours, and the adjustment may be limited.
If you ski on a budget, as many of us do, a cheaper helmet is better than no helmet, and to an extent I agree with WFM, buy the best you can afford as you will probably gain ...

I was fortunate to get mine in a closing down sale a couple of years ago, so got a better quality lid at a good price, I would not be willing to pay £70 plus for a brand name!!.
