Hi all,
Once again I seem to be at loggerheads with a poster because I deleted not a post, but an expletive that was within the post.
I have always tried to ensure that a level standard of language is maintained on this forum. I do allow the odd slang word, but I will not allow crude language nor will I accept certain letters to be missed out and replaced by **** when it is obvious what word it represents.
If that is not aceptable to anyone on this site then I make no apology nor will ...

If that is not aceptable to anyone on this site then I make no apology nor will I back away from my responsibility to keep this site clean and welcoming to both young and old.
Well not an easy one Pete, but I tend to agree with you in principle, we should protect all users of the site from offensive material. I think the problem is that it seems to have become acceptable to use the ** instead of the word in most areas, especialy the national press. Daily on facebook i see posts using the actual swearwords in full.
Foul language does not have a place on the forum, I agree, however sometimes there may be a time when much is lost in the comedic or other effect ...

Foul language does not have a place on the forum, I agree, however sometimes there may be a time when much is lost in the comedic or other effect if an alternative word is used in a particular sentence. I didnt note what word was inferred by the post that was originally deleted that seems to have been the catalyst for your post.
Ultimately, however it is down to the forum, when we join we should read the terms and conditions, especially relating to language and abuse and if we do not like them then do not join the forum.
I was always taught that swearing and bad language is an indication of a lack of grammatic ability, I am no longer sure this remains the case, there are many people with an excellent command of the language who choose to use foul or swear words, this may be that, sadly it has become an accepted norm in society, one which in my opinion can only further damage our language in the future.
I understand you concerns and hope that issues of this nature can be resolved to the benefit of all.
It's knowing where to draw the line in these cases and although I'm no prude and can swear along with the best of them, I think this forum would be doing a dis-service to our younger members if we lowered our standards and permitted vugarity.
Every year I get blasted by someone for just trying to be fair to all. But then again after 12 years I should be used to that by now
Charlie, I understand what you say, I said it in effect myself, its in the papers and everywhere, well almost. But the fact that its sort of become acceptable does not neccesarily make it right.
I can use a good sentence of vulgarity and swearing as the next person, I work in a mainly male environment and it is almost the norm at times.
However I tend to agree with Pete, maybee we should now be showing an example to others that you can have an amusing conversation orally or verbally ...

I see your point that sometimes we see more into it than neccessary and need to chill out, I guess we all have our standards and at times we have to understand that ours are not the only views.
I do however wonder if due to the amount of swearing and vulgarity that is around it has caused a general lack of respect for each other in society in general.
There is a time and a place for swearing and in my opinion it shouldn't be on a 'public' forum. Save it for the pub or on piste as a border tries to wipe you out .....
I do agree with you Pete
But sometimes we let slip the odd howler on the board. I think the poster in question has been with the board for a very long time and possibly this could be his first misdameanor?? Power to your finger and if any of us slip up we know what to expect.
