Snow sounds awesome. I'm off to bansko in a few weeks. Do you need a guide to access decent offpiste runs? Also did you spot a halfpipe or any decent jumps in bansko. One website says there is a full terrain park with ten jumps and sound system another site says there is no park at all?
I didn't actually do any off-piste runs but I did see a lot of them and also saw that they were very often "in use" by mostly snowboarders but also skiers. The one that looked very good was a slope that runs under the chair-lift that runs next to the Alberta Tomba chair-lift. There was heaps of fresh powder and quite gnarley/steep in places. There were also quite a few people just generally making there own off-piste runs in between the many pine trees and below the chair lifts. To be honest ...

To be honest there was soooo much fresh powder that you could go pretty much anywhere and you would have good conditions. Just be careful if the snow should stop and the snow start to melt on the off-piste areas as there are some nasty tree stumps, massive boulders and other hidden obstacles that would no doubt cause some serious damage!
Don't listen to all those wally's telling you that the poste conditions were poor because they were bloody brilliant. Of course, by the ned of the day they were getting quite mogully but then again that is to be expected when you have people skiing and boarding down them all day coupled with constant snowfall during the day. I can only imagine that they were fairly inexperienced skiers/boarders making such comments which i can understand. I too would have been terrified if i were inexperienced in such conditions.
I will also add that Bansko is definitley more difficult than Pamps - 100% more so. A red run in Pamps would get an average blue in Bansko and the wall in pamps would get an average red in Bansko. Alberta Tomba, the black run in bansko, is a must do if you are very competant. I did it 6 times in most states of powder, ice, groomed etc etc and enjoyed it every time. Try and avoid it in the ice if you can as it is VERY terrifying!!!!
Bansko village is also really good value and the people were sound. All in all a fantastic week of the best skiing ever and I defo be going back next season and the next and the next and the next!!
No, you don't need a guide but you will need to be competant and experienced enough to deal with the varied terrain. It would also be advisable to speak with the locals/guides about and areas to perhaps avoid for your level of experience.
there were loads of naturally made jumps off piste (and on piste actually) all over the slopes but I never saw a park as such and I skied every run.
Nice one mate, will definately keep my eyes open for the run under the lift. Three weeks or so to wait, any chance of a small prayer to your higher power for a decent dump 26th feb on (with a bit of sunshine to) , tall order i know but you are the man !!
As for Bansko being the place, i agree, i have bought an apartment there so it is reassuring to hear such good reports. Our paths will cross i am sure in seasons to come...
I know that there is another series of low pressure systems "wondering" about the waters of the European continent that are due to start moving over the continent by the weekend and will no doubt result in even more snow to top up the honestly MASSIVE amount that is there already. The temperatures also look to be staying very low which is good as it will hold that fresh snow for longer. All we need is to pray that there isn't a sudden destructive change in wind direction that could blow ...

I am sure that you will be enjoying some good conditions fellow enthusiast. I will also be sure to keep an eye on the weather charts and what the pressure cells are going to be doing.
