Bulgaria Ski discussion board

I stayed there this February with the wife and two kids. It was terrible. If you want to eat at night either walk on unlit streets to the town or wait in the queue for the dining room for 45 mins to be served with slop. The table cloths were never changed and by the end of the week they were disgusting. The rooms are so dark in the day and night that you cant even read a magasine.
To make matter worse the owner of the hotel turned up (which eh does every couple of weeks) with around 10 bodyguards all carrying guns who set themsleves up on all the door, the lifts the bar etc. when I asked the rep what was going on and was she safe she said "of course you are". As I explained, if he needs all these guards to protect him from whoever, then he cant be safe so as I am next to him I cant be safe.

The staff couldnt give a monkeys and we witnessed at least 4 couples having a major row as they did not have a room as the hotel had over booked. A practice that I found out was normal practice for them.

Its last on the shuttle bus route so be prepared for a wait as the buses come round full. If you ski, the bus driver will not allow you onto the bus with your ski boots. You have to wear you normal boots and carry your ski boots. Not too bad you may think but ever tried keeping your boots with you all day when on the slopes.

I could go on and on. Suffice to say if you can change the hotel or even better the resort then I would do so. Getting to and from the slopes is an absolute nightmare and you would be better getting into a resort where you can easily walk to the lifts, bars restuarants etc.

Bulgaria is a fantastic place and I have been all over it but you have picked the wrong resort and definately the wrong hotel.

My last piece of advise is if you are flying to Plovdiv. You poor devil. Its hell. But when flying back there are only 3 check in desks. Go to the one on the left. Its next to the oversized baggage belt. If you go to the one on the right you will have to fight through and over everyone and their baggage to get to the belt with your gear. I hope for your sake there is not more than one plane there at a time or you will be outside so make sure you go back with warm clothes on.

no no no no... 1 person's bad experiences.. your hotel is fine, you can walk about 5mins and your at the main area of the resort. plovdiv is an experience, to say the least but your flying to a deprived country and the airport isn't gatwick well more humberside with a smile, but jesus, for this 1 bad report you'll hear 1000's of really good ones... & you'll find you can't walk through a lot of hotels with ya ski boots on.. not just pamporovo. Just go with an open mind..and if its all that bad I am sure more people will tell you. But I thought it was great

Well ... don't know about the hotel - we've never stayed there. But, felt I had to reply to points made about airport.
We flew to Plovdiv last year - our second time - and found it greatly improved. The baggage collection on arrival was a lot more organised and we got our stuff pretty quickly.
When we flew home, there were several flights at the same time as ours, but there were more check in desks than the previous year, and we had no problem getting through. Once we'd checked in our stuff, we got through to departures quite quickly - and the facilities there are ok.
Plovdiv's never going to be Manchester or Birmingham, but it's not that bad - we've been to far worse!

It want the hotel you couldn't walk through with your boots on it was on the bus.

I agree its only my experience but that's what Graham was asking for. However I have to say that everone on the bus going back to the airport had the same thoughts. Maybe I just had a bad week as it was half term but I will never go back to the hotel. I am going back to Bulgaria for Chritsmas but won't be going to Pamps.

I wish Graham good luck and hope he gets a good week. Bulgaria is a fantastic place and we have had some great times over there.

Why on earth would you want to have ski boots on on the bus????????????
My wife and her sister stayed there earlier this year and experienced no problems at all. I'm sure you'll be fine and I know you will enjoy Pamporovo.
This will be our 14th year and we'll be there for a month so Pamporovo can't be all bad can it?
We love it.

If you don't happen to like the food in the Hotel then eat out there's plenty of choice and its certainly cheap enough. That said the White House is not particularly cheap but the food is good.
