Hi
We got home yesterday, after a week at the Rila and thought I would share some our experiences.
We love the resort (mainly due to Kas & Bobby's presence) but I think next time we will avoid the Hotel Rila, as once you scratch beneath the surface, it is more of a 2 star than 4.
We found the staff there to be uncooperative and sometimes rude, the pool was cold and the food awful.

The White House at the top of the Gondola was always a welcoming haven for either pre or post ski sessions, and the food and service were exceptional. The snow at the top is far better than down below - for obvious reasons - and catered for everyone, regardless of your choice of run: Green, Blue, Red or Black.
Top Tip: 1. Get the steak from the Titanic Bar, to the left of the slopes outside the Rila.
Top Tip: 2. Break early for lunch at The White House, and get an outside table to watch the people coming from the gondola to the lifts - skiers vs walkers!
Last note then. We really enjoyed our stay, and thanks to Kas & Bobby for being there for us and making us feel so welcome. Miss you all already!
We got back Friday and my wife hated the food when we first arrived Monday but it seemed to get better as the days pasts..we couldn't fault the breakfast. But i dont think i could eat there a whole week.
I would have to disagree about the pool.I thought it was excellent and no colder than an other pool i've been in,plus you've got the 2 large hot tubs to warm you up,

2)The constant hassle from the Reps trying to get you into there pub/restaurant
3)The F***ing photgraphers with Micky mouse/sponge bob running in front of you for a photo whilst your trying to get your ski's on or practise your turns. The last thing you need when your a beginner.
Like you we loved it at the top .
Did you go to the forum meet last monday at the snow Hut???
I have been to bulgaia 6 times and the food aint good (not moaning as I always end up losing weight) we always go self catering after our first experience, there hotels are not in my opinion at the same level as ours and there pools are alway rather cold but thats how they are over there.
You do get used to the ennoying things ie the bellmen put your head down and dont give them eye contact is my motto!!
I've just got back from a week staying in the Rila and have no complaints apart from the ski's were rubbish from Boro Sports.
Food at the hotel was Hot and lots to choose from. If you didn't like it then there are enough options within seconds of the hotel. But we only ate out one eveningnas we were more than happy.
The noise out the front from the party goers only bothered me the first nite. The rest of the time I was one of them! Was on holiday so was enjoying myself til early ...

Pool was excellent. Jacuzzi could of been hotter but that's it.
We are staying at the Rila in a couple of weeks and have had some problems getting our baby (1 year old) a sufficient snow suit. Are there shops in or around the resort we will be able to get her waterproof trousers at least?
There are many many shops in the resort selling adult and kids clothes. Your have no problems and it will be a lot cheaper than buying them in the UK. Plus you can barter.....
What is wrong with the food? Is it bad English food or just unfamiliar Eastern European fair? We are staying there in a few weeks but have heard the sort of complaints about many hotels in the further corners of Europe and have always found it to be down to a mismatch between what people are used to and the local cuisine. Sure I can see why for some people East European food might equal bad food but my kids (and nearly all the others in our group) were far happier last year when the hotel in ...

Sure I can see why for some people East European food might equal bad food but my kids (and nearly all the others in our group) were far happier last year when the hotel in Predeal were persuaded Brit kids did eat meals that didn't involve chips and started serving them local dishes they had never seen before.
Hi.
Just to be clear on my comments, I believe you only get what you pay for, but. No one makes regional allowances for the standard of flight safety and nor should we do so for standards in kitchens. One of the cooks was seen smoking in the kitchen, another hacked onto the floor.
I have spent considerable time living in other countries, including Asia for a few years. I accept and welcome differences, there would be little point in travelling unless you did.

I suggest comparing the food at.Rila with The Titanic. Then, if you can tell me that there is no difference, I'll bow to your taste!
