I think with the Rila you pay for the location and view more than anything else. OK, so the rooms are a wee bit more up to date than say the Bor, Samokov or Moura, but it's just really window dressing. The lobby bar is way too expensive and, well, we just found it a bit too big and impersonal.

My favourite Borovets hotel has still got to be the Breza. Odd choice I know, but got some great memories locked in there. The Bor is great too ... it's just the location that lets it down ... that walk up in the morning gets on your things after a few days.

I think that everybody is entitled to their own opinion of course. What I think is a lot depends on your expectations. The chances are that you paid for 1/2 board and compared to many other European resorts it was comparatively cheap. I think that just because you pay more you don't necessarily get a better hotel or better food. I stay at the Iglika as I think it is better value than the Rila, I don't get a view, the pool is still cold however whilst the food is not great it is certainly adequate. I end up paying a good £100 less than the Rila which is enough to buy me an evening meal or 5 should I not like the grub in the hotel.

Some of the problems you said about the Rila are true. We've always had rooms at the back so no view but quiet. Always been happy with the breakfast but as said before pay for half board but always eat out. Food in restaurants much better than hotels. I always thought pool was good, if a little slippy when you get out.

Had to laugh a your comments about watching the skiers versus walkers down the track from the gondola. A few years ago as a beginner i 'took out' half a dozen people walking down with their ski's, definatley one of my better Bridget Jones moments!

Next time you go to Boro, try Ice Angels. Perfect location, lovely rooms and spa, 4 *. Then eat out in the evening, thats our fav hotel.
