Me and my girlfriend are staying at the hotel samokov for a week boxing day... never been skiing before.. where is best to hirer equipment and lessons...
I learnt to ski in Borovets, and have been back for the last five years as well.
I usually stay in the samakov hotel the teachers are good and it is great value for money. Go with an open mind and you will really enjoy it.
There is a group of five of us staying in the samakov at the same time as you.
Are you in ski school?? I would deffinately add this to your trip it is a great way to meet people and the tution is first class. If you need any more advice dont hesitate to contact me ...

I booked mine with the tour operator. It will be just the same as with the hotel. You will get your ski hire liftpass and ski school all in one package it usually £170. Are you flying from manchester if you are you'll probably be on the same flight as us. Look out for four lads and a girl.
We have been to the Samakov a few times, the foods basic but ok. Book a learn to ski package before you go to incude lift pass, ski hire and lessons its the best value for a beginer, and its good fun in a group. If the groups are massive which sometimes they are and you don't feel you are progressing like you would like to , you can hire a private instructor for an odd day or afternoon, I did this when I leant and it really helped.
Chris, sorry to give you bad news but the Samokov is really poor. Unless they have got their finger out [which I doubt!] the food is dire, and by that I mean worse than any school dinners you may have experienced, cold uninteresting slop! If you get the snow you will have a great time, there is a ski school at the Samokov and whilst [last year] the equipment was a little worn I could not fault the ski instructors who were most helpful. We enjoyed the skiing, but not the hotel which could with a bit of Management care and service be first class. We are going again on 27th Dec, but we are going in a catrered chalet. I hope for your sake they have done something about the poor service in relation to food quality and their Gala dinner wasn't worth going to either!
