Pop to a local dome and have a refresher snowboard lesson or two .
Dont be put off by some of the small minded skiers on here , they spent more time sat chatting over a hot chocolate and telling ppl what they have done, can do etc , than actually doing it
We all love the mountains
Jez, the great thing about snowboarding is you never forget it like riding a bike. you'll be a bit rusty but relax into it and your flow will come back, if you've linked turns in the past i wouldn't bother with the lessons and just go for it. I would probably stick to one or the other or you might find yourself mixing the both together and that could get messy. Good luck with it Jez!
Paul.
Most wrong with sking. It's what I learnt to do. I tried a board in the early 90s but that literally try it with no instruction. Of course it was a disaster. Did a 50/50 holiday but then had to break from snow holiday due to kids. When I came back to skiing then I just wanted to make the most of my time and money so stuck with what I knew as I can ski pretty much anything most 1 week recreational skiers are going to come across.
I'd really put the effort into getting to a snowdome if i was you. Or if absolutely impossible the even a dry ski slope if they have that carpet bristle stuff - but DO NOT bother if they only have dendrex (the fish net stuff) - it is terrible and really dangerous for boarders and will do more harm than good.
The reason I say this is because i know a few skiers who have tried to learn to board. In several cases they've spent a day and a half falling over on a board and given up. It's fine if ...

It's fine if you can't ski either - but if you can then you spent the whole time that you're falling over thinking how much better it would be to be on skis and that you're wasting your holiday - especially if you are with friends who are off skiing the reds and blacks.
Matt
Snow dome too far unfortunately. Southampton has a dry slope but it's old school fish net and I don't fancy breaking my wrists before I go skiing!
I did a 50/50 boarding holiday the last year before we had kids (13 years ago) and was doing linked turns so I am kinda hoping I might get some of that back and not have to spend hours on my arse.

What I do know is that there are some really good instructors such as Bobby at Hunters and I reckon a half day 1 on 1 might be all it takes to get going again - but then again I might be kidding myself!
