I'm not in Southampton, just about an hour away in West Sussex. My in laws are all there though!

My wife has taken the kids to snowtrax recently - I've not been for years. Wonder if it's worth doing a private lesson...

May be. One of my work mates went and said the surface is so much better than southampton. Give it a go.

Not sure if already mentioned above, but you can do a snowboard taster/refresher at the end of the day, so you wont miss out on flying all other the mountain in the day on your skis, you'll just miss a couple hours in the bar!
