How to avoid Bansko Gondola

Having returned from Bansko at the weekend, I was appalled at people having to wait over 2hrs on some days to catch the Gondola.

I arranged a lift via a local, to take three of us to the top station by road and was skiing on the mountain in 15 mins.

Do not take the taxi as it is 60 lev.

Local price is 25 lev, 10 pounds, not bad to avoid a two hour wait and getting stressed.

Had a good week, although the place looks like a building site !!!!!!!!!,

i agree! we had no problems with the gondola as we were there for about 8:15 most mornings... we were one of the first in the queue! and if you cant get there that early - save queing for so long and head for about 10:30... the queues are 10 -15 mins max.

re: How to avoid Bansko Gondola

You seem to be missing the point. Some people with small children etc may not be able to get to the station for 8.15am.

I am giving an option for those who arrive later. The drive through the mountain is just fantastic and you see the real Bansko and not the building site, along with grumpy tourists, complaining about cold food, the beer is not good ete etc.

Mark, sorry, didn't see any mention of small children in your post Wink

Have to agree though, it's a nice drive up - only done it once when the gondela was shut, but lifts open 'up top'.

re: How to avoid Bansko Gondola

I went with my two daughters as she was doing some private teaching and filming to complete her BASI ski exams.

The other group had little ones and all getting up and on a mini bus for 8am caused a few probs for the group of 15.

The queue was never less than 40 mins last week plus a 30 min ride in gondola, so all in all 15mins for 10 pound to be on the slopes before anyone else is top value, If you love the sport :-)
