re: In Bansko Now...

Lift pass prices in Bansko are the same as last year. 50 lev per day or 285 lev for 6 days + 5 lev depositFood prices all round are certainly more expensive. Some of the previously family run traditional Mehanas in the old town have been taken over by more hard nosed commercial concerns particularly around the squares in the old town. Avoid the mehana in the first square with the hugh big flourescent Mehana sign on the roof. Used to be one of our favourites and regular haunts over the years ...

Some of the previously family run traditional Mehanas in the old town have been taken over by more hard nosed commercial concerns particularly around the squares in the old town. Avoid the mehana in the first square with the hugh big flourescent Mehana sign on the roof. Used to be one of our favourites and regular haunts over the years but has been taken over and is now complete shite and a ripoff. Waiter tried to get us to pay 50 lev for bottles of wine claiming that the house wine that was on the menu was not good. He even brought a glass for us to try and it was clearly watered down. In the end we just had to get up and leave.

On the mountains try to avoid any of the resteraunts run by Ulen ie the tents, the resteraunts around the gondola Bla Bla in Shiligarnica (Chilie Garlic) and the goat. In behind the big balkan holidays sign particularly inside in the hotel itself is not bad value. Prices in here are generaly only slightly more than in the town area.

There is still very good value to be had in the town but you need to search it out.

We also paid 100 lev for ski and boots hire for 7 days.
2 of us got ski lessons and paid 235lev each for 6 days with just the two of us in the group.

Skiing was good for the week. There were some rocks and stones showing up in spots. The slopes were not as well pisted as other years and Ulen appeared to not have pisted some of them at all. They are still hoping for a good snow fall to lay down a good base layer to get them throught the rest of the season.

The ski road is in excellent nick and overall excellent skiing was had by all.
