I was in Borovets last week and I think Boro Rob is exaggerating a bit. I think the most we paid for 2 beers was 8 lev = £3.20ish, which I don't think is bad!.
I live in Brighton and we pay London prices for drinks too and it definately wasn't as expensive as that. I kept converting everything back to pounds and pence to see if it was still as cheap as last year, and I definately think it was.

I wonder what people are expecting sometimes. Do they think they are going to pay £2.00 and get a gourmet burger? A little bit of perspective is needed I think.
I payed 15 lev for 2 coffees on the yastrebets mountain and they wanted 10 lev for a snicker (marathon) to us old uns.you cannot justify that surely. This resturant is the 1 on the left hand side when you get on the gondala its the one next to the drag lift off that small green run.
The rila were charging 5 levs for a small bottle of coke of which you could buy in the supermarket for 1lv 29.
The rila charge 9 lev for a barcardi and coke and 5 lev for 1 beer.Ok its not the most expensive ...

The rila charge 9 lev for a barcardi and coke and 5 lev for 1 beer.Ok its not the most expensive place to drink but its much more than what ppl expect to pay at a very small resort with limited skiing/snowboarding and has alway been reguarded as being very cheap.
Hi Joanna, absolutely take your point aobut prices being comparable with the UK and hence not too bad news.
Two points though -
The restauarant and bar prices in Boro are 3 times those charged in Sofia (Bulgaria's capital) and the difference in prices does not reflect any increased cost in delivering services to you in Boro, instead the money goes straight a small minority of very iffy owners driving around in cars that you and I could never afford.
Petty cheating by restaurant ...

Petty cheating by restaurant staff (overcharging, adding extras etc) is now so endemic that it is clearly being sanctioned - nobody will ever get sacked if you complain about a staff rip off - and it seems that the for some (not all)of the bars, hotels and restaurants it has reached a point where brits are seen as nothing more than walking ATMs to be separated from their dosh asap....
Both points taken and very valid indeed. I think we must have been very lucky at not being ripped off.
Whilst we were there someone in our group did say that if you were buying a drink at the Rila to make sure that you got the receipt with your drink, otherwise that meant it was going straight into the barmans pocket. They also mentioned that drinks at the Rila were more expensive than most other places.
It's a shame because it gives a bad impression of a great place to go on holiday.
If you take away London prices then some places in Borovets where cheeky like Wetherspoons prices.
We ate in Katys really nice homley restaurant me and mate had big 16 ounce steak, the girls had a nice big bit of chicken meal, we had two bottles of local wine and it ended up being £25ish each.
Late in week we went ot Mamacitas for some fahitas Mexican style and it was smaller portions and more expensive then Katys so was a bit of a rip.

In our Hotel Flora it was 5 levs a beer which is just over £2 not exactly cheap when it's local stuff that's probably worth 40pence!
Boro Rob you are such a drama queen! BUT I agree, the weather this year has been disappointing and prices this year have gone mad, and before any one quotes European prices!!! I Know!!! and you pay for what you get!!! I know!!! but seriously you can't keep hyping prices without giving the facilites, two years ago I would have thought Boro was the place, now mmmmmmmmmmm!
