Well just back after a crappy delay at Sofia but let's forget that, now on to the most important bit, the holiday. Ok the good bits first - Had an absolutely fantastic week with more snow than you knew what to do with. Stayed at the Hotel Ela, which was really nice, and the food was even edible. Hotel had great little bar that did buy one get one free cocktails every night from 8-12pm. The rooms were quite small but really warm, maybe even a little too hot and very clean. Shower was wicked just what you needed after a hard day's ski.
Partner hired board and boots from Rossignol shop just down from Hotel Ela, which was brilliant. Staff really nice and couldn't do enough to help you. Even offered us a cheap ride on his brand new skidoo, which looked awsome. Also had some really nice gear and not fake crap, which was in abundance in the resort, so be careful.
I didn't book any lessons - well I did once, but instructor Mikos didn't show, maybe he saw me get off the chairlift and thought sod that - but friend who couldn't and wouldn't ski booked some lessons with an instructor called George who managed to get her to come down the long green run after only two days, so he must be bloody good to get her to achieve that much.
Had two brill meals at Mamma Cita's and Franko's pizza which were as cheap as chips, somethin like 30 levs. Took a really nice horse and cart ride round Boro on last day, which was really good and let us see some bits of Boro, which we hadn't seen before, apart from when the horses let rip lol.
Sat in the Rila bar a couple of nights watching the carnage on the slopes - was really nice, maybe a little bit more pricier than the Ela but really good atmosphere inside. A guy playing a guitar and singing wasn't too bad either -if you give him a clap he will love you forever.
Crystal reps Miko and Stuart were a good laugh too, even though we are still waiting for Miko to buy us a drink for going the longest distance on the toboganning - i hit the board jump and hubby made it all the way to the car park, much to the amusement of the Borosport instructors.
So all in all had a brill week, great ski and plenty of snow, booze and laugh and all for a reasonable price - what more could you ask for.
Ok - now for the negs - Queues a little long on lifts, but then i did cause a bit of carnage at the top of the chairlift at Rila 2 hehe. along with many others. The gondola queue wa unbeliebable on Thursday but then it was a Bulgarian holiday.
Our bedroom was on the roadside and there's only so much of Rick Astley that you can put up with every night, so if you are staying at Ela and are not a Rick Astley fan then ask for an odd number room and then you can listen to the doggies barking instead, alternatively drink Vodka until 5am then you won't notice.
The runs for me were a little limiting as I found the runs all or nothing but hey will just have to improve my skiing for next time and then can cos mayhem on all the runs. Where the green run crosses the reds half way up was a bit treacherous as people just stood in the middle of the runs, watching people fly down or falling down, the latter more often than not.
Slopes weren't groomed as well as could have been but brill snow fall made up for that.
Well that's it folks had a wicked hol didn't want to come home last night and even more so because it was blowing a blizzard at Sofia last night - so should be plenty snow for this week too.
It wasnīt simply a " Bulgarian holiday"-it was THE Bulgarian holiday! Then we celebrated 3th March, when 85%of Bulgaria was free from Ottoman yoke=slavery!
A few months later Britain-at the time supportive of Ottoman atrocities against Christian Bulgarians, set up the Berlin Congress and took our lands and people back under Ottoman slavery. As a result,we had to fight 5 wars to get our lands and people back, but TO THIS DAY ONLY 50% of Bulgarian land is called Bulgaria.

The rest is in Turkish,Greek,Serb,Romanian hands and they massacred our people and confiscated their property!THANKS,BRITAIN FOR THE GENOCIDE!

lenny, know where you are coming from and can understand your feelings. Thank you,Steve. We donīt blame the ordinary British citizen today for any of the past mistakes of your governments, all I intended was to clear that most Bulgarians really donīt recognize todayīs artificial map of the Balkans and 3rd of March is a holy celebration of freedom, not just some holiday.
Thank you !
tom you are so childish. Lenny was trying toi teach us something it's a pity that your brain appears too small to take a couple of paragraphs of history in. Why don't you get a life ?
Lenny i do apologise if i offended you by saying 'A' Bulgarian holiday. It was not meant to offend anyone or understate the importance of Bulgaria's history. So please accecpt my apology.
