So there were queues - you were in Bansko during the busiest week of the year (the same as any other ski resort in Europe) it was school holidays, New Year (both Christian and Orthodox) etc. From this week Bansko will be very quiet with no queues for the lifts.

No boards available to rent - again the busiest week of the year. A bit of forward planning and you might have thought about pre-booking.

No help from the Bulgaria Ski Team - eh? why would somebody from the national race team ...

Lack of apres ski - can't have been looking too hard then!

Only two blue runs open - well if the ski area could make it snow to open all the runs for you they would be very busy throughout Europe bringing snow to all other areas as there has been a lack of snow everywhere...

Food was terrible - where did you eat? Never had any issues with the food or service

Maybe next year you could try Italy - they are a friendly bunch who are great at queuing, slopes are really quiet during New Year, food is great and cheap, they do not smoke and Alberta Tomba will assist you at each lift Confused

re: Just back form Bansko

This is not the experience I had when I went two years back & I doubt it's changed that much - sure there's qs - ever been to Pas de la Casa in Andorra, plenty Qs and rudeness there believe me!

Prices in Pas' are twice or more what you'll pay in Bansko, the facilitise are worse thank Bansko - consider being in andorra at the mo with no sno, surrounded by french & Spanish and you'll understand Bansko is probably better than most places.

To be honest I think the problem at the moment is ...

To be honest I think the problem at the moment is that most folks have not checked the historical weather forecasts before booking (or booked on the cheap) only to be finding out that Bulgaria conditons aren't going to be any good till mid-end of Jan at the best of times - if you don't believe me search on google and you'll see it's about average - yep the past two years ahve been reat with early dumps but it even worse the years before that!

With regards the building work - it's no worse than my home town Leeds which has been a perpetual building site now for 20yrs - yep we've loads of cool bars, apartment blocks and a Harvey Nics but it's still a building site!

sorry about the rant -- but it reads to me that folks havn't done any home work before they went and want to blame somebody else for any oversights!

If you want better odds for snow and friendly folks try Canada but i'll cost three times the price as trip to Bansko, it will take anything up to 18hrs to get to the resort (including xfers honest it took 18hrs following take off from Machester AP to get to Kimberley , it didn't snow once whilst we were there and had to contend with ice everywhere due to it being -18 to -34)

I'm going Bansko in two weeks and don't expect to get better conditions , if we do brill - if not that natures way of saying spend more and moan somewhere else!

Well said Jamifly - on any outdoor activity holiday you pay your money and you take your chance.
Every country has its rude people, resorts get busy (strangely enough) during school holidays, only the Brits queue in a line, Europeans do not have issues with smoking in cafes, food in other countries is different to what you eat at home, nobody can make it snow if nature does not want to play fair and they speak different languages abroad...

That is part of the holiday experience.

I had 7 guests staying in Bansko over New Year and they have reported back that they had a great time - snow was ok, all but 1 of the restaurants they ate in provided good food at a great price (that one did not have a veg option for the 2 veggies in the group) and yes the gondola queue was massive. Each day they got up early and were up the mountain with no problem

Please do not look for someone/somebody to blame - make the best of the situation and enjoy. You have probably worked hard for your holidays so chill and try to relax.

If you want guaranteed snow, queuing in lines and burger with chips you could always try one of those snowdome things you have over there Very Happy
