re: Just back from Borovets- full report as promised!

Just got back yesterday as well. Second time running i`ve been to Borovets.

Must say that i won`t be going back again though. After reading the snow reports before we went we expected good conditions throughout. However the range of snow reported was no where near the actual.

A few runs closed from day one and got steadily worse. Gondola closed for a couple of days due to high winds, taxis to the 4 man chairl lift were much more expensive than last year.

Two of the Red slopes have cannons on them, however according to our instructor they had run out of water in the dam and therefore were unable to run them. By Thursday afternoon there wasn`t anywhere that wasn`t either too short to ski or just too dangerous.

Beginners faired much better and their lessons kept going. Nightlife ok and you would want to keep to the happy hours to make sure you get good value for drinks.

All in all the prices have risen since last year, with the poor snow conditions and not great equipment i`ll be saving my pennies and go elsewhere next year.

Shame as i`ve been to Bulgaria for the last 3 years.

I guess its a struggle affording the half term vacations where the slopes are full etc, but its out of order to slap down a poster for her (educated) opinion on the matter. No wonder England is full of chavs who think cheap entertainment is more important than a decent education. Not one person who bitched at Pat mentioned anything constructive that they do with their kids if they take them out of school during term time - learning a language or setting some sort of scholarly activity ...

No wonder England is full of chavs who think cheap entertainment is more important than a decent education. Not one person who bitched at Pat mentioned anything constructive that they do with their kids if they take them out of school during term time - learning a language or setting some sort of scholarly activity during their holiday or demanding they perform higher than their peers to be taken for example. Just what on earth are they supposed to learn from interacting with the same low end British runts that they encounter every day at home?
I guess we'll still need binmen now all the Poles are going home.

Otherwise, thanks for a full report

What a load of old tosh going on here !!!! First of all, it is obvious that ian took his kids out of school for a week. And ???????? Secondly, whose business is it other than his and his family's? The thread and his initial post started as a holiday review and something that we all look forward to reading when peeps get back. Perhaps Pat should have started her own thread on the educational pitfalls and dangers of taking your children out of school during term time. PLEASE ! Get a Life ...

The thread and his initial post started as a holiday review and something that we all look forward to reading when peeps get back. Perhaps Pat should have started her own thread on the educational pitfalls and dangers of taking your children out of school during term time. PLEASE ! Get a Life Pat ! Also, naughty me .... took my daughter out of school twice during term time so that we could enjoy quality time together and where she would have a week of full on, non-stop exercise. She attended an all girls grammar school in surrey whose practice for sport and health and fitness was ONE hour per week and then, during that hour, the teacher really had no idea what she was doing. In fact my daughter actually ended up teaching the teacher the rules for Netball !!! Finally, my daughter left school with 7 GCSE's with A-C grades. She is now training in hotel management and taking an NVQ course in Food and Drink. So, all in all, she didn't do too badly for having a couple of holidays in term time, wouldn't you say Pat???

I am with you on this Steff and fully support Ian. One of my daughters really struggled at school as it was to rigid for her and I could never get the time to help out and get her relaxed as much. Since I have diversified and taken her out in term-time got her relaxed worked through any issues and then used the school holiday period to catch up and work on those things she really struggled with she has excelled and gone from strength to strength!!!!!! the local education authority have ...

Since I have diversified and taken her out in term-time got her relaxed worked through any issues and then used the school holiday period to catch up and work on those things she really struggled with she has excelled and gone from strength to strength!!!!!! the local education authority have seen this and are now actively assisting in this way to. Strange that isnt it!

And as for me I was illiterate at 13 and was forced into a regimented system of schooling that didn’t suit me. I got excluded 5 times! Yet I have gone on to work for a commodity trader in my younger days and now run my own successful consultancy. I have many friends with HONs degrees who work in call centres or the like (I am not belittling this just trying to demonstrate that education does not equate to excelling at work etc). Because some small minded minorities put too much emphasis on formal education and not on personal development which is far far far more essential.....

And you know what Pat ..... my wallet has never once been a consideration in any of this just my daughters welfare. DONT make assumptions!!!!

Good on you Ian.

re: Just back from Borovets- full report as promised!

Pat. People like you really get up my nose. When our children were younger, we sometimes took them out of school for holidays. They are all clever kids who don't have time off sick. So has it affected their education? Well let's see.....first one got 9 GCSE's at least grade C and is now in the RAF; next one got 4 A's at A level and is now in 2nd year of Medicine; next one got 4 A's and a B at A level and is now in 1st year Maths at Imperial; next one got 5 A's at A level, is currently in ...

Not taking sides here, but the experience a child gets when going abroard is pricesless in my book. Different currency, culture, language, food, and a totally new experience in life. I would guess a child would learn more about life in that week that a month in school.
