Just back from sunny Borovets

Just returned from a very expensive shopping trip to Borovets. If there has been any snow recently it was well gone, the temperature was a rather decent 19c, t shirt weather, and sunny!. On a more serious note, there is quite a lot of work going on, a new hotel is being built sort of behind 'Francos' but doesnt look like it will be fininshed this year, some old restaurants and shacks have disappeared and new ones being rebuilt, (all due to lease renewals), bad news for the 'single' men out ...
Just returned from a very expensive shopping trip to Borovets. If there has been any snow recently it was well gone, the temperature was a rather decent 19c, t shirt weather, and sunny!. On a more serious note, there is quite a lot of work going on, a new hotel is being built sort of behind 'Francos' but doesnt look like it will be fininshed this year, some old restaurants and shacks have disappeared and new ones being rebuilt, (all due to lease renewals), bad news for the 'single' men out there in that the playboy club have not renewed for this season , at the moment, its not the most popular establishment locally!. ......what else is there to report, oh they have clearde all the trees between the four man and the baby slopes, some say for more area the cynical say to cash in on the trees and the price of wood!!.......thats about it really... oh nearly forgot theyre building a couple of new lifts!!!!!!!!!!!! the one man opposite the rila is now a four man and barring any very early onse of winter will be up and running for this season, the pylons are in and teh base stations etc just cosmetics on that one, but the suprising news is that the two part drag over by the Yastebrets Hotel, bottm of the world cup run, has gone, it will also be a four man chair, and should also be finished for this season, this is good for those who kept falling off the drag but bad for the rest of us because what was a fairly quiet area will now be very accesible to all!!!!! The Yastrebets Hotel, which would seem to be the new proposed five star hotel will be a bit chilly this year, seems to have been gutted no windows and a lot of work going on....................................if anyone wants any more info feel free to ask............heres to the PREMIER BULGARIAN WINTER RESORT!!!!!!!

re: Just back from sunny Borovets

Can you please elaborate on the cutting of the trees? You mean that there are no trees in front of Rila hotel?

re: Just back from sunny Borovets

Between the original four man and the nursery lift there was an area of trees this has gone, not all the trees in front of the Rila

re: Just back from sunny Borovets

unfortunately all the monies going in to Borovets, bansko and pamps will be a sad shadow within 4 years. They might not stand a chance of getting the winter games, londons got more chance, but the investment is going to make this the only place to head for really, sorry about that

There is more money being invested in to Bansko than Borovets.

Hi,
I see that everyone wants his prefered resort to be the best one:-)

Bansko is unlikely to grow more than what it is now, and the reason is the Pirin national park protected by UNESCO all around. The only possibility for enlargement is to buy the Bezbog ski center near Dobriniste, which will happen in near future. The nature in Pirin is charming and we will try to preserve it as it is now.

Borovetz is a very nice resort and it will be growing for the Winter olympics, but what I am scared is that we, bulgarians, always do things without thinking and I don't want to see Borovetz and Bansko like Avoriaz in France or others, with 1000 hotels on 1 sq meter, no trees and nature destroyed to make new runs. And where money goes, is in many cases bad for everyone.

It is just a personnal opinion, but many of my friends share it.
