re: Late snow in Pamps

No-one knows what the resorts will be like in 10 yrs time, but they'll probably be still trying to sell all the empty appartments in Bansko and Sunny Beach. 20 thousand empty appartments in Sunny Beach according to A Place in The Sun on TV last night.

When I went to Sunny Beach summer 2006 in Aug for the 2 weeks we were there there was no vacancies anywhere - or so we were told by all the tour operatours.

The other thing to remember is that last year throughout Europe there was bad sno conditions so thats fair enough - this year thats not the case but yet again Pamps is suffering. Maybe that might have something to do with the incredible hot Summer 2007? Who knows.

FYI I have bought somewhere I will be using around 3 - 4 times a year (longer hols) that is family friendly. With the odd golfing weekend with a couple of mates. I can afford the costs with 0% rental and basically decided to buy a place over buying a BMW 650i as it turns out (which would now be worth near on half what I paid for it).

that is the thing, if you bought a property to enjoy, you will be fine, and if you sell it back in 30 years time, you might get your money back minus inflation.
However if you thought buying a one of ?,000 of flats to rent out to skiers during what is a fairly short ski season, on limeted no.s of slopes, you may get your fingers burnt.
Maybe buy a flat in Sofia, you could rent it out all year round, and just put a clause in the contract that you are allowed to stay there yourself for two ...

Totally agree, Property in the capital would do well if you buy for investment and intend on renting it out.
But, Bulgaria mountains are not all about ski-ing, there's also Hiking, Biking, Horse Riding, Kyaking, White Water Rafting, Climbing, Caves, 4 x 4 Adventures, a travel company near me who specialise in Biking Holidays have added Bulgaria to their brochure this year. We've bought for our own use, but may consider an add in a biking magazine once we've explored the area a bit more ...

We've been trying to scan a map into memory map to be able to make our own map around Pamps area.
If anyone has tried this with any map and been successful or knows where we can buy a very detailed map of Smolyan/Pamps area I'd love to hear about it as we havn't cracked it yet.

If you want some good news about Pamps go on to the site ...perelikbg.com/en/ We have know about the Perelik Projct for some time now and as the site says its going to be ready to ski on by DEC 2008 giving us 22km of extra runs to ski on. I can't comment about Borovets as i've never been there but although Bansko has a nice town attached ,i dont like the idea of being dependant on a cable car. Especially if there are high winds as there were last year and one couldn't get up to the slopes for 3 days .Imagine that when only there for a week.
Anyway Pamps is tops for me and when the international road between Xante and Plovdiv opens we'll have the Med 1 1/2 hours away and another international airport in Greece but closer than Sofia.
